remove 3m tape residue

I installed a Oem truck spoiler on my car using double sided 3m tape about a year ago. I just took the spoiler of and some of 3m tape stayed on trunk. Any recommendations on how to get it off

YES, that's what I was thinking of, I've never used Goof Off, only Goo Gone, but that stuff might as well be unicorn blood. It's amazing.

"Goof off" is based on acetone and will eat through paint.
"Goo gone" is much milder.

Or just use WD40

I agree use a heat gun to remove the big stuff as the goo gone will just disolve the tape and make a mess.
Once you got pretty much all the tape gone use goo gone to remove the little stuff, should come out no problem at this point.
Then grab a PC and some mild polish to clean out the surface.
Finally finish it off with a sealant/wax to protect the clear coat. =)

I bought my 3M Adhesive Remover from Kragen & it really penetrates. I tried it when I restored a wheel & removed the balance weights which left some very sticky residues. Spray it & leave it for a minute & wipe it off, keep repeating until all goo are gone.

They actually sell an automotive kind of Goo Gone. It's not so rough on clearcoat. You can get it at AutoZone

Umm, no. Goof Off is NOT acetone based and will not eat through paint. It is very safe for paint. See their website for yourself.
