First Drive Post Proceed v5 Install
Ok, Just finished installing the proceed. I think I'll get better at install/remove after a couple tries. But the first time sure is an initiation into your BMW's innards. Double checked all of the fittings, tugged and pushed and they all seem to be secure and happy.
Anyway... See this pic? I don't recall having an Exclamation mark before when driving. Here's what I did. 1.) Waited for engine to warm up, took it out to a back road and gave it a run or two. Wow, definitely can see Map1 does something. It seems to get to 80 as fast as it used to get to 60. I Left it in Map 1 and on way home notice the exlaim mark. 2.) Stop on my street and turn the engine off but ignition on. I recall that you have to floor it twice to clear codes. So I push the pedal to the floor once and I get a "engine in limp mode" or some similar warning on the nav. Push the pedal all the way down again and seems normal but the exclaim is still there. 3.) Try the procedure again, same deal. First question, is this normal for the code clear operation? At this point I'm right in front of my house and it's late so I'm not sure if it's still in limp mode or if that was temporary as I only went about 200ft to my garage, I just pulled in and called it a night. I wonder if tomorrow when I have to drive to church if it's going to stick me to 20mph or whatever limp mode is. I know I can hook up my PC to the dongle, but do I need to? Can I figure it out via the dash and commands? Or is this somewhat normal for the first time out? Or is this a consequence of having a piggy back that is to be expected? Also related I'm sure, when I started it up when parked near my house, I notice that the Service Engine Soon light came on but extinguished after about 15 seconds. I don't recall that being normal... Thanks for the help... |

damn! it's that hot late at night?
what error was it on the bimmer? if you went into limp mode you'll get the half engine light. and you'll feel the reduce power. some members were saying that their SES light stay'd on a little longer on restart after there updated software DME. double click your hazard lights. you'll get boost gauge on your fueling gauge.

+1 its your clock that needs to be set. It the future you can check car info to see why that symbol comes up. It comes up for a variety of reasons. However, your clock clearly needs to be set as evident by the picture.

Reset the clock!? Really BMW? Really? Let's give an alarm condition on pepoles' dashes which indicates a problem with their vehicle over the clock?? Now that's german engineering. Those guys are no joke.
Sure enough, set the clock and my "alarming" issue went away. Thanks for the suggestions! I guess at 1:00a it's not the first thing I assumed to check. I can't recall any other car giving me a dash alert because my clock was off. Hell, I'd rather a flashing "12:00" over that! Ok, but some other questions I want to address to people who have the proceed. Bear with me.. 1.) ignition on, engine off -> press pedal to the floor and limp mode comes on. Press pedal to the floor again, goes away. This is the method for clearing codes, correct? Is this normal after the first pedal push or is something wrong with my installation? 2.) On startup, the Service Engine Soon light comes on and stays on a long time. Maybe 15-20 seconds before extinguishing. This didn't happen before. The car information center does report all OK. Is this something? 3.) When I start the car, the dash goes fully red and yellow for a second. I know I've seen this on videos of cars with proceed on the internet, but I just want to make sure this is normal. 4.) I don't see a N55 reference guide out there. Even searched proceed's website. Is there such a thing? 5.) if I double click the hazzards, how do I tell which "mode" they are in. There are 5 modes. Will the mode reset to default when I shut off my car and restart? I needs my gas gauge. Thanks for the help! |

I haven't hooked my computer up to the proceed. Is this the only way to tell?
If so, how do you do it? I don't see a "show codes" or similar option in the app. Just RPM, Boost, Fuel and Ign gauges, some xls chart in the middle and some options up top. Is this the right app? Thanks. |

its staying longer since the DME Update. when i used to have the old DME the light turned off instantly, but now it stays longer, but to be honest, the car feels such more better since the update, its no biggie for me. anyway all the other things are OK, relax and enjoy the tune
