Programming your own Car & Key Memory
We picked up our 325xi today, and one of the coolest features is the ability to program your own Car & Key Memory settings. Having owned an E46 and an X3 where the dealer was the only one that could change the Car & Key Memory settings, this makes things ALOT easier. Also, if we change our mind about something, it's an easy 1-minute fix versus taking a trip to the dealer and begging them not to charge us to reprogram.
You can control all the features right from the OBC stalk on the steering column. Our car is a non-Nav car, I wonder if you can do this stuff through the Nav like you can on an E60. I believe that this is a September software-update change, but I could be mistaken. Anyone else have a chance to play around with this a bit? Otherwise, our car is great thus far, and I'll try my best to get some pics once it finally stops raining up here.

Our 325xiT should be in our posession by mid next week or so... I have been waiting for the software update for the E90, but no word yet. Anxious to try it out! What specific things can you program?

I can say that in my case, a pre-sept prod with sept update, I cannot change the settings usually only the dealer can do (for example, drive away auto-lock). Bummer. You'll probably have better chance than me since yours is a sept prod.

I'll grab some pics later... I can program just about everything that the dealer used to have to program...
-auto lock when car in motion or if car is not opened after unlocking -seat memory when opening door or unlocking -daytime running lights -visual confirmation when locking/unlocking -pathway lighting ("follow me home") and adjustments of how long the lights stay on

Yes.....you can program all of these features with the I-Drive. It's a great feature. Now I don't have to rely on the dealer |

Here are a few shots of what you can do in the car. I'm sorry if a few aren't totally clear.
There are more. It's a great system and very easy to use and change once you figure out what the symbols mean.

I'm not sure how I get the key and the check mark to come up... I think that appeared when I put the key in the slot to tell me the key was recognized.

For those that recently took delivery; Did the CA have you fill out a programming sheet before you took delivery? For key memeory, DRL, etc..I think I did this for my E46.

It's really quick, and it's something that your Client Advisor should be able to configure with you in a few minutes during the vehicle presentation at delivery.

We now have our 325xiT and all of these programmable functions are there. I spent a few minutes yesterday programming our preferences and it was a snap. I think those of us with older (seems a damn shame to even have to say 'older') E90 are being screwed though.

Yep. I have an appointment scheduled for the software update for the E90, but according to the service guy, I still won't have those options. It will only enable their ability to program it for me.
It's not like I'm going to be changing my mind about these settings, but I still feel that BMW is screwing us. We should get a full retro-fit, even if that means a hardware upgrade.

I just took delivery and it looks like I've got a August Production car without the ability to self-program DRL, autolock and car & key memory. LEDZEP keep us posted on what happens after your software update. I am going to push for a September software update as well.
What did you say to your dealer? I read somewhere that you have to be experiencing an issue with your car before they'll update the software.
