Got my car back from the dealer for HPFuel Pump problems today
It's about 12:33am now. I got my car back around 3:30 today, 4 days after I brought it in on Monday. The dealer, following the service bulletin, installed Progman 3.0.0.2 I believe tested for an error code again and didn't get it again. At the dealership I fired it up a couple of times and the car started right up. After I got home and swapped out my rims, however, the car failed to turn over - it was about 8 cranks or so followed by a restart on my part at which point it fired up on about the 4th crank. A couple hours later I tried to start it in my garage to see if it was still having problems and I still had extended crank problems - i'd say the 6th time it turned over. Still a couple hours after I drove the car to get some dessert and the car turned over on its 2nd try.
I don't think the car's fuel pump problems have been fixed, but I don't understand how the bmw dealership didn't see any faults after doing the software update and test driving it. I also don't get why it's such an intermitten problem. At the dealership it turned over perfectly on the first crank. I'll most likely bring the car in again on Monday after I let my service advisor know.

It seems like bmw has been turning their heads in the other direction when it comes to fuel pump problems.
Most of us already know the symptoms of a faulty fuel pump. But it seems like bmw rather try to fix something else.

i dont wanna sound stupid but, it seems like the only thing you changed is the rims. Just for the hell of it, put those rims back on and see if fires up in the first try. I know 4 rims should have nothing to do with a fuel pump failure, but it just does not make sense.
The car was starting without a problem many times over and over, again and again. You come home, swap the rims, and now it has a starting problem. It seems like the only variable is the rims. Try it, what you gonna loose. Truthfully, i hope it doesnt still start with the original rims, and this rim theory goes to garbage. |

here is what i am thinking. When they install a new software at the dealership, and you drove from there to home. I dont know how long of a drive it was. But regardless, computer had to store some data during the run generated by the original size tire and rim combo. MAy be some of this info is also used to start the car or run the car properly. Then you went home and swap the rims, and these rims are most likely generating different information thats not matching the what the computer stored previously. So it may cause the start problem.
Its like when you change to a different size tire and wheel your ABS never operates like it used to with the original sizes. Sometimes it comes on ealier tha before or later than before. |

this seems to be the only registered problem on the 335!!! you would think after being out for 6 months they would have figured out the problem!!! i am extremly dissapointed in them for how they (esp BMWNA) have treated this problem and the oil cooler issue!!

I take offense to that. I think that most of us in my facility are pretty damned good. What we say and what comes out of your SAs mouth can be two different things unfortunatley. Most of us do sidework on BMWs, so us being idiots wouldnt help would it? In relation to the cause, a PROGman update will not fix a pump. That dealer is an asshat. |

do you realize they never came out with a fix for the E46 window motors breaking and jamming up? That car was out for 5 years. I still fix the window assemblies every week. Its going to be sometime before they address this.

the theory about the wheels is might have something to it, but it doesn't make any sense to me and I've been experiencing problems before even with stock wheels. I'll bring the car in to the dealer with the rims on monday and see what they say. if the car can only be driven with stock rims i'm buying another car lol. no joke.
