CPO - Clunky Shifts, Hard Gates

Another CPO question for you all...

I am noticing that my shifts are not as smooth as I remember them being. Also, I've found that leaving my office at night it's sometimes hard to get the shifter to get into reverse (takes a try or two). I've seen no slipping of the clutch and it seems fine except for the "clunky" shifts I'm experiencing. Of course 1-2 is bad since of the CDV but it feels like that same odd clomp is now present between other gears.

1. It may be something as simple as needing new fluids but...
2. It may be more. Is this worth taking the car to the dealer to or do you think they will just destroy me since it's not under full warranty and it may be contributed to "wear & tear."

Thanks!!!

The trans fluid is "lifelong" fluid. So, according to them it doesn't ever need to be changed. As for taking it in...They charge $50 per visit when you are in the extended warranty period. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you. Your choice.

Replace the fluid with BMW lifetime fill. Available at your dealership. This should make a dramatic difference.

If the problem persists, take it in and get the complaint on file, if your trans goes out of warranty you can point to the problem in the future and say it wasn't addressed when it started.

Just made an appointment - we'll see how it goes. Maybe they'll fix the exhaust rattle like they were supposed to (and said they did) last time as well.

The first step should always be to get under the car and change the "lifetime fluid". It really starts to feel notchy around 50k (depending on your driving habits).

Is there any chance they'll just do it for me?

Knowing BMW I doubt it. They will probably say they took at look and everything looked fine and they were unable to replicate the problem. Due to the fact the trans fluid is supposed to be life long I highly doubt they will change it.

Hah, Oh well. On the off chance they do change it it'll be worth the $50 and who knows, it could be something bigger.

Dealer said it was fine but at least I got to drive a 335D for a couple days and get a chance to get the tires balanced and oil changed. I'll pick up some tranny fluid this weekend and replace it anyway.

Step 1) Buy Jackstands
Step 2) Replace fluid with new BMW OEM fluid or Redline/Royal Purple/Whatever performance product
Step 3) Drive it like you stole it
