Muffler delete Q!
Anyone who has done a muffler delete on their car, does it sound loud in the car with the window's rolled up, I want to do this mod (till I get a proper exhaust) but I don't want it to sound like a Honda civic fart bart inside the car. Would like to here from members who have this done, and also have you had trouble getting the annual state inspection done with this done on your car? Thanks!

I did it and didn't like it after about 5 minutes. It sounds great at idle, drones like crazy in the car off idle and accelerating normally kind of like a honda but deeper, but as the rpms rise and at full throttle the drone goes away and it sounds really nice. I literally tried to not step on it too much when on the cars bluetooth or people would ask me what that noise was. This is coming from a 33 y/o who graduated from hondas btw.
I wound up buying a hooker max flow muffler and having it welded on my 330i and it was waaaay better. Really deep and noticeable at idle with no drone and sounds nice at full throttle although a little quieter than no muffler. I chose the max flow after doing a lot of research in which I found out it made good power on everything and had some of the highest flow numbers of the mufflers out there. It's also waaay lighter than the stock muffler. |

No problem, btw you have said that in about every muffler delete thread, I did my research, most threads were about "how can I do a muffler delete, or what is a muffler delete." I found that owner's of 335i's felt a stronger drone in their cars then N/A car owners. So want to know from people who have done this with N/A cars and get feedback from them, is the drone really loud and is their any leagle issues with doing this.

yes the drone is loud, but it is bearable to some. I hear autos naturally drone more than manuals for some reason, but if you can live with the in cabin noise, its great value for your money. And you will have no problems with emissions since all the muffler does is make it quiet. The cats are what make your car's exhaust legal.

Drone is different for everyone, the only way you will be able to decide is if you hear it for yourself. I have the MD on my car (auto) and the only time I hear the drone is going uphill and even then it is more than bearable for me. I think of it as hearing my exhaust in the car so I don't really mind the extra sound and actually like that I can hear it, but some people think otherwise. It's all up to you in the end.

No man I don't have a sound clip but yeah for $70 I couldn't be happier with the nice deep increase in sound. Honestly though, now that I have the injen intake the only time you hear the muffler over the intake is at idle.

I can't think of any reason why the muffler delete isn't worth trying. If you plan to replace the stock suitcase with something else, give the muffler delete a shot first. If you don't like it, get the new muffler you planned for and move forward. It's such a cheap mod it's almost ridiculous not to do. I have had mine for months and have not regretted it AT ALL.

Well Just got the Muffler delete done, first impressions...WOW sounds awesome got in the car drove around for about 30 mins and the drone was getting to me. The first 4 gears the drone is very annoying after that it gets MUCH better, I'll probably try the hooker max flow muffler to take the drone away. Love the sound though, but the drone was driving me crazy!!!!!

The drone is noticeable if you are listening for it. Nothing worth throwing away however much you paid to get it re-welded. Thats how it is with mine anyway.
