335i 6AT sedan PROcede vs. 335i 6MT Coupe Turbo Tuner

First off, let me say it was very nice meeting you guys at our little impromtu "runs" on the closed private roads we did our runs on.

Now, for all of you, this was meant to be an apples to apples comparison
335i auto sedan w/PROcede vs. 335i auto sedan with Turbo Tuner.

Well, as it turned out, the Turbo Tuner is not as easy to remove as some expect, so the car with the Turbo Tuner was a 335i Manual Coupe.

We both had the driver and a passenger in the car.
Combined our weights were pretty equal.
But of course, the manual coupe is about 35 pounds lighter than the auto sedan. I also had about 1/3 tank of gas in my sedan, the coupe had just under 1/4 tank.
So the Coupe was probably about 50-60 pounds lighter overall.
So again, this is a bit of an apples to oranges comparo.

We did several runs, most starting in 2nd gear from about 40 mph and going to 110 or so.

The PROceded auto sedan would pull about 1.5-2.25 car lengths on the manual coupe with Turbo Tuner.
Same was true from a 1st gear roll starting at around 20 mph.

We tried to do some rolls starting at higher gears, but we both messed up twice. Once I said lets do a 6th gear roll...he thought I said 4th gear, so of course he pulled away.
Then I said lets do 4th, and he was accidentally in 6th so I pulled hard.

We also tried one starting in 3rd at 50 mph, but that was a bad speed and gear to start in for the auto. 50 mph in 3rd is about 2800 rpms if I remember correctly.
So when I nailed it, the car wanted to downshift and that caused the stability/traction control to kick in and bogged the car down really bad (we both ran with the stability control left on and hitting the DTC button just once). The PROcede just makes so much torque, it's easy to spin the tires/set off the traction control. So the coupe would jump a car length or so right from the get go and I pretty much was playing catch up. I started reeling in the coupe though but then we had to back out as we were running out of space. In the other runs, we started at higher rpms so the auto would not downshift therefore I could ease the pedal down and not set off the traction/stability control.

We did a couple runs from a stop.
Needless to say the auto launches much better than the manual as from 0-100 I (in the PROceded auto sedan) would pull about 2-2.5+ car lengths on him.

We then tried a 1st gear rolling run from 20-100 with me and a passenger in my sedan, and the coupe with just the driver. I had about 130 extra pounds in my car than what the manual coupe had.
In that instance I still pulled about .5-.75 cars on the manual coupe with Turbo Tuner.

It was a lot of fun. I have got to give the Turbo Tuner props. For the money you get a decent amount of bang for the buck.
I'm sure if this was an apples to apples comparo with a 335i auto sedan vs. 335i auto sedan, the PROceded car would of pulled a bit more, as the weight would of been more equal.

Kujo was with me and video taped the runs. I believe he will post the videos up soon.

Thanks again guys.

Now I still just need to find a PROceded 335i MANUAL sedan to compare auto to manual.
In my experience so far, I think the two cars will be VERY equal, with a slight advantage to the auto at launch and a slight advantage to the manual as speeds increase.

Later all.

I love these cars though.
BTW, that coupe is such a good looking car!
Let me know if you guys ever get that Turbo Tuner in the auto sedan, we'll do it again and see what happens. :rocks:

Nice write up! I would like to see you race a manual procede from a roll (I think too many factors are involved with the driver when it comes to launching if you just want to see overall performance), or an AUTO turbo tuner from a roll so the only difference would be the proced/TT. Nice runs though.

Next time give us a bit of notice, and we can arrange to be there with an extra unit to install in a car for you guys to play with. Great work though!

Yes, basically what my point was in the original post.
If they could of easily of gotten the TT out we'd of put it in the auto sedan.
The PROceded auto sedan would of probably of just pulled further away tho.

The Turbo Tuner makes great power for the money, but just not enough to keep up with
a PROceded car, even in a lighter manual coupe. But still for someone on a tighter budget it's a GREAT buy.
Oh, and I am running V1.2 map still.
I will be uploading the new V1.4 into the PROcede on Wednesday.
It supposedly is going to give a bit more torque and smooth out a power dip up around 5K rpms.

I will be doing a V1.2 dyno then V1.4 dyno back to back to see if there was power gains, but I suspect there will be as Shiv would not of made the V1.4 lose power.

That is perhaps one of the coolest gestures I've seen from a tech company and I've been an IT consultant for 8 years. You truly have a great product here Jeff.

Would like to see if Radgator might run also since he has that interesting exhaust mod and made so much torque on the dynopak.

It was great meeting you guys. Our little test was one hell of a rush even though I wasn't driving.

Coming from a stock 335i (AT) drivers point of view I could say that for some reason the MT 335i with the Turbo Tuner had more of a throw you into the seat feeling than the 335i AT with PROcede. Comparing a stock 335i AT vs PROcede 335i AT, they both don't seem to pin you HARD into your seats even with all that great torq. With the MT 335i Turbo Tuner it does pin you pretty good, so that might be because of the transmission.

I believe installing the Turbo Tuner is simple but it becomes a little difficult because of its location/visibility. Most of the work has to be done with feeling around but I'm sure once its done you can replicate the process in no time. I hope Eurobahn gets some sort of adapter to lengthen the wiring for the Turbo Tuner so you can pull it from the side of the motor to the top, making it much easier to see what your doing.

So to give you guys a REAL time frame of installing a Turbo Tuner is more around 25 mins for the first time. I can almost guarantee that the PROcede would take someone at least 1 hour for their first time installing it.

Kujo, Driver72 and AB TEK 818, I'm all in to do this once again next saturday or sunday if 'AB TEK 818' is willing to throw his Turbo Tuner into my car or unless Eurobahn can setup something to install one in my car for that day or for a week...

I must give it up to Jeff @ EuroBahn for actually picking up the phone on a Sunday when most automotive shops are closed.

+2 for actually calling me back (without me asking) to see if I was able to install/remove the Turbo Tuner. :rocks:

Again since the Turbo tuner was on someone else's car, I didn't want to take the liability of working on it in case something broke, I wouldn't want to be held responsible.

Jeff, see if you can setup something with your distributor in Van Nuys so that I may pay for a TT just for testing etc. I would like to get a AUTO Procede vs AUTO Turbo Tuner run done next weekend for sure just to finally end all speculations.

Sorry for not waiting to meet up with you and do a few runs. I'm sure everyone is eager to see the videos so making them wait longer would be too much. Hopefully next weekend I can meet up with Driver72 once again and just do a Procede vs Turbo Tuner Automatic Sedan runs with Stock Wheels and Tires.

yeah if I was closer Id lend my car for the test too...I have an MT sedan.

This is a great thread though, everyone gets to see real life and real time benefits of each program. I might side with the TT on my car only because its within my budget range....that and I'm not looking to make a stupidly fast car anyways.

Id like to see what a TT coupled with an Eisenmann exhaust would net.

Great job, guys. Although there were some parameters that may not been 100% equal for both cars, I think for the most part, it's a good indication of the differences between the 2 products in what they each do for the 335i. Thanks.
