How much weight can I expect to save per wheel

If I go with some good afermarket wheels? I'm on stock 18" wheels with the stock runflats now.

I like the size of the 18's to be honest, might consider 19's but not 20's.

If you run with a set of MORR VS8.2s you can expect to save a fair bit of weight over comparable aftermarket rims. They also adhere to the VSLR (Vehicle Specific Load Rating) for OEM BMW rims.

As an example, a set of VS8.2's weigh:

19x8.5 : 19.52lbs per rim
19x10 : 23.88lbs per rim

In my experience, it is difficult to find rims that adhere to these standards and weigh as little as they do.

My stock wheels were 162s. They weigh an average of 10lbs more than my Advan RS (including tires)
I'm running:
18x8.5 front (17.8lbs wheel only) with 255/35 tires
18x9.5 rears (18.5lbs wheel only) with 265/35 tires

So 1/2 inch wider in the front and 1" wider in the rear.

If you stick with 18", you can save quite a bit of weight. 19" you can save quite a bit of weight, but you may end up paying a bit more for wheels and tires.

Read this, especially page 2, before you think about going for light-weight wheels (unless they're forged $4000+ wheels):

If the wheels are cast and not forged, then weight is a pretty good indicator of structural strength.

That's not entirely true. A good friend of mine cracked two of his stock 17" wheels on his E91 on two seperate occasions.

I've hit some really good potholes and some curbing at the track with no issues at all. My Advan RS are not forged, very light weight and still very strong (spun cast). NO wheel is impervious to bending, some are definitely stronger, but all wheels can be bent.

I do agree with you somewhat, buy a good wheel to start with, but it doesn't have to be $4000 forged wheels.

I originally had the 193M's and they are heavy:

Fronts - 18x8 24.7 lbs each
Rears - 18x8.5 26.2 lbs each

I replaced them with Forgestar F14's which are wider and a lot lighter. The front (18x8.5) and the rear (18x10) both weigh less than 19 lbs each.

That's about a 6 lb difference for each front, and almost an 8 lb difference for each rear.

Anyway, I've been happy with the F14's, which run around $1400 for my size.

Good luck!

yes. If you are going for after market rims... go with 2 piece forged ect. Brands like volk or rays. I had a set of nismo rims on my 350z that set me back $3300. Basically if you are going after market rims for performance you need to fork out some money. If you are going for looks then it doesn't really matter. My 18" bmw stock rims weight 24lbs in the rear. It makes me cry because my rays were around 17lbs.

Here are the actual weights of my wheel/tire combo. Fronts are actually 11lbs lighter because I upsized 1/2" rather than 1" like the rear.

Stock 162 with Bridgestone runflats in stock sizes
front 54lbs (225/40)
rear 56lbs (255/35)

Advan RS with GY Eagel F1 Asymmetric
18x8.5 front with 245/35 43lbs
18x9.5 rear with 265/35 47lbs

I didn't get a chance to weigh my wheel/tire combo again now that I've changed to Michelin PSS with 255/35 up front. Definitely more grip up front.
