BMW Perf Exhaust - To install or Not to Install
So being the easily excited and influenced person that I am, I heard my buddy's performance exhaust about 2 days ago and I just went and bought one for myself today.
BUT....... My plan was to go with the Vanguard since the LTBMW and SoCal guys make it sound like the greatest thing since sliced bread... so now I'm having one of those moments where I'm like should I put this on... or should I stick to the original plan and wait to buy a Vanguard. Now I haven't heard the PE too much in person on a 335i except for revving in a parking lot, but I heard the Vanguard and it sounded GOOD and it was prettttyyyyyyy damn LOUD! Do you guys think I'll be happy with the PE? I'm not all about being loud (which is why I didn't end up going with cutouts) I'm more into a SEXY refined sound... I want people to turn and look for the Ferrari when I mash my pedal (yeah in my dreams). Going to try finding a local with the exhaust installed, but I'm SORT OF regretting my impulsive behaviour at the moment and wondering if I should not waste any more money installing it and just return it and pickup a Vanguaaard.

Well, there's two things to consider: sound and performance. The PE mainly adds sound with little performance gain. The Vanguard exhaust adds sound and has more performance gain than the PE since the PE is axle-back vs. Vanguards cat-back setup. |

I say follow your heart - don't listen to what a group of people say. Every single mod will have at least one thread praising it and one thread bashing it. Almost every thread I could find on Akrapovic had people saying "wtf what a rip-off" (this coming from people owning a car twice as expensive as what most people can afford), but I found some videos and I loved the sound. I also wanted a slip-on/axle-back solution, so it was perfect for me. In the end, I was happy - the build quality is amazing and once the sound broke in, I loved it. Deep exotic tone without the drone.

Ahh, I should have mentioned I heard the exhaust on the 328i not the 335i. It made a HUGE impact on the 328i, but not exactly sure how it will sound for the 335i. I heard one revving up at a meet in a parking lot, but that does not represent how it sounds under load. Now I do like the Vanguard, but I would have to wait until October to make that purchase when I am in the states... which is why I made the impulsive purchase of the performance exhaust, however now I'm not sure how much I will love the performance exhaust on the 335i. Sounding GOOD is more important than being loud, but the Vanguard seems to have both of those down pretty good. Hopefully someone local to me messages so I can quickly hear the exhaust before I book my install date.

Somewhat in the same boat. Currently i have a Bastuck muffler and catless midpipes, it sounds great and has an amazing tone but lately i've been feeling its too quiet for me. I was considering deleting the factory x-pipe (e92) to see if it would make it a bit louder, but on the other hand i could just get a new exhaust system to try out. I was also looking into Vanguard although i cant tell from online videos if it is just loud or it has a nice tone to it too.

If you don't want any drone and want a great, high-tech sound, put the BMW Performance Exhaust. I have it and I really couldn't bear any louder sound.

I ended up just installing it since I had it laying around anyway. VERY HAPPY with the sound, it sounds pretty damn nice so I am going to keep it on for a while.
I don't think I could capture the sound with any type of accuracy so I never really tried.

Nice. Reading some of these BMW PE threads make me want them more than Dinan. I only consider these two because of the warranty. (Please no Dinan bashing)

my 335is comes with PE from factory and it sounds great......not ferrari great but exotic great (ferraris IMO are the best sounding exotics). Also I am saying this having DP's. without DP's it sounds good...alot better than a stock 335 exhaust...IMO

PE is the best sound on the x35s, full stop. Layer in AR cat less dps and it's friggen sick sick sick.
