PS2's or Super Sport

Chaps

I am about to buy some new tyres and would like your input as to which you would recommend michelin PS2's or super sports.

From what i can gather ps2 is old and being replaced with ps3. From the michelin website i get the impression the supersport is their premium sports tyre which inclines me in that direction.

looking on tyrerack they only have ps2 (no ps3) but have limited quantity, which i suspect is because they want to sell the ps2's before offering the ps3's. they do have the super sports and they are a little cheaper...

PS3 is not the replacement for the PS2 despite what the numbering may suggest. This was also stated to me by the folks at Spinning Wheels. The Super Sports are the PS2 replacement and are apparently better in like every single aspect - which is quite an achievement considering the PS2s were rated so highly.

Have you considered Yoki Advan AD08's?

I've found them to be great.

not really, i have always been happy with the michelins in terms of tread wear and grip. So i think i'll give the supers a go unless someone has had a bad experience....

No they do have both ps2 and pss in the size i am after 235 and 275. They only have a couple (according to their website) ps2's left, which I take to mean once they are gone they will sell ps3's. This is why i thought the ps3 was the replacement for the ps2

For all roundedeness, super sports win every single time.

For max outright dry traction, advan nevoa ad08s... I've got my AD08s, haven't put them on the car yet but I'm not expecting them to be very quiet...

Dont even waste ur time with PS3's.....PSS or something else
G'day. I have a stock 335 coupe and the standard wheels are 225 35 r19 and 255 30 r 19. From what i understand the widest i can fit is 235 35 r19 on the front and 275 30 r19 on the rear.

If you know anything else please let me know

I have 19" PS2 non runflats and they feel miles better than my previous 16" runflats. I too thought PS3 and not Super Sports was the replacement to PS2 but guess am wrong according to comments here. So the Super Sports would be even better, If you get the PS2"s for much cheaper than the new Super Sports replacement, go for them, you won't be sorry.

Those are the correct sizes (pending your final wheel choice)

F: 235/35/19 will work with 19 x 8.5 ET35-40
R: 275/30/19 will work with 19 x 10 ET35-40

I recently bought the PSS from tyrerack also ..... See my post at http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=535241

Whilst there is a natural tendency to want wider tyres I went with a 225 front because in this tyre the 235 is much heavier.......Some 2kgs or 20%!

yes I do remember reading that thread and getting confused about the freight on 1 or 2 shipments ....

The chap from tirerack has given me a quote of $289 freight on 4 tires and i am hoping it would be the same..... for 2 lots of 2 tyres

As for the additional weight not too concerned about additional weight now i have the JB4

Yikes, the PSS are cheaper that PS2 by some margin. Shame they don't come in 255/40 17, only 245/40 17.

I'm just about to fit a set of N3 PS2s which I acquired a couple of months back. I just love these tyres to bits and it's only on really cold mornings (sub 8 deg) that they lose a little grip. I'm down at the wear bars on the rear after 25,000km with the fronts still having 2mm across the centre although the edges are pretty close to finished.

Oh and 2 tyres will likely cost around $200-220 even though 4 is $290

If you're not looking to track your car then PSS will do just fine.

ET refers to the offset in mm... I won't confuse you, just stick with wheels in that range and you'll be fine.

You only need to know about offset if you're planning on running 'stance' or have an unusual tyre combination.

That's a sign of underinflation!

If the tyres were overinflated, then they would wear quicker down the centre.

Not sure - I check my pressures every fortnight, they never seem to lose any air and I run the fronts 2-4psi over the recommendation. All my cars have worn their outside edges due to the driving I do - Subaru was OK with 1.75 neg camber but still wore its outside edge quicker.

Funnily enough using the recommended pressures at the rear has meant the centre has worn fastest.

recommended pressure like 30psi? That's way underinflated... that's recommended for a nice comfy ride, has a very detrimental affect to fuel consumption, steering crispness and tyre wear

I'd recommend 36-38psi if filling up when the tyres are cold... 40-42 when they're hot.

I have 2 x 235/35 R19 Pilot super sports for sale if you are interested, pm me an offer and we'll work something out if you want (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=553710)

I've got the AD08's on mine at the moment and it's a great tyre but tread-wear is only rated at 180 VS 300 of the super sports which i assume means that the AD08's will wear a fair fit faster...

Sort of off topic but has anyone here had their tyres filled with nitrogen which is supposedly better for various reasons (although many doubt the benefits) and usually costs around $5/tyre from the usual tyre shops?
