335i rear brake pad/caliper question

Hello,

I am looking at purchasing a used 335i coupe. I took a peek inside the rear wheels at the brakes and noticed something that looked shotty but was unsure if it was "normal". It looked like some kind of a yellow epoxy or glue or something that was between the brake pad and the caliper. It had a rubberized, lumpy look to it and it wasn't particularly attractive.

Now excuse me if this sounds technically ignorant, as I have never replaced brake pads before. My understanding is that the pads should just be held in place with a clip or something. I have heard BMW brakes reffered to as a "floating" pad design and thats why the brake pads are visible "through" the caliper (unlike brembos for example where they are hidden). I don't know if this rubberized epoxy looking stuff has anything to do with this? I did not notice this stuff on the front brake calipers, however.

Does anyone know what this stuff might be? I do not have pictures unfortunately.

Thank you in advance...

That would most likely Ate brake caliper grease(plastilube) which dampens the pads from vibrating causing brake squeal.
