coolant thermostat
So my check engine light went off, and I connected my scanner and it gave me P0128 coolant thermostat(coolant temp below thermostat regulating temperature). I took it do the dealer and they said I don't need to change it but I could be pro active and get a new thermostat for $800 parts/labor. But should I? Let me know on what your guys' thoughts are.

Thermostat itself is like 100-120 USD and the installation will take around and hour if you do your homework. I believe you will also need a coolant change (as you may be draining all due to the thermostat change) and a battery charger to avoid draining your battery during the air bleeding procedure after filling in the new coolant. Let us know how it goes. 'k |

The reason you don't need to replace it is because the thermostat fails in the open position.
Since Winter is coming up, you should replace it, or else you will have a hard time warming up the engine to proper temperatures... especially in Albert where it can get severely cold. |
