OEM deck, songs to not start where left off
Hi, I would expect a little more from my oem cd player, I have the logic7 system.
The majority of the cd's I listen to are long mixes, an hour or more. Sometimes when I turn the car off and turn it back on the cd started back at the beginning of the track!!!!!!!! AAAAAAHHHHH OHHHHH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! is that normal? to me IT IS A PROBLEM RARRAR!!! |

Not normal. Mine always start exactly where they were when I shut them off. Not sure why you would have that happening. Is this a burned MP3 CD?

yah it is a burned mp3 cd. should i talk to the dealer next time i go in there and tell them it is annoying?
I found out more about the problem, if I only turn the car off for a short period of time like 20 minutes or less, then it starts right where I left off, but longer than that, it starts at the beginning of the track again.... |

I'm afraid that is how it's supposed to work.
For some 15-20 minutes the car "is waiting for you" and keeps some systems active. After that it shuts down mostly everything to save battery. Unfortunately the current playing position of the CD is not saved across this power-off (e.g. like radio presets)

That is not how it is supposed to work. The newest software update is supposed to fix this as a known problem. There is an error that causes power to be restored to the CD player even if it is in the off position if you return to the car. Short cut solution is to immediately turn on an off your radio when you get back in and start your car.. then get the software update.

Strange. Now make me understand it, please.
So: 1. there is some MP3 playing, halfway the track 2. you stop the car, the player shuts down 3. wait more than that limit (say it's 20 mins) 4. come back to the car, open it, insert FOB 5. as soon as the CD starts back (and _will_ try to resume playing _at_the_start_of_the_track_) stop it and start it again using the "power" button located on the volume knob 6. Bingo, track resumes where it left before you stopped and closed the car Is this correct? Doesn't make much sense to me. I do not see how the start/stop issue (whick I may believe it's an issue corrected by a software update) can impact the position where track playing resumes. Please outline the exact steps for the workaround (something like I outlined above). I plan to try it, 'cause it would be nice.

I think that's it. This stops it when it starts up. On the iPod player (uses same interface) you can select start track from last position. The issue is that power is restored when you are not playing. This is supposed to be fixed as of release 24 software.
1. there is some MP3 playing, halfway the track 2. you stop the car, the player shuts down 3. wait more than that limit (say it's 20 mins) 4. come back to the car, open it, insert FOB 5. Immediately on inserting fob turn radio to off. Start it again using the "power" button located on the volume knob when you are ready to listen. See if this works? Tom Tom |

Obviously done 1 to 3 when I parked the car and 4 this morning. I did step 5 and the headunit appeared to wake-up in "time mode" (i.e. off). Then I started the engine, then waited a little, then started the headunit again by pushing on the volume knob. CD playing (actually MP3 playing) started _at_the_beginning_ of the track that was stopped halfway when I left the car. I really think there is a misunderstanding. OP's complaint was that if the car is shutdown for too long (>20 mins) it forgets where the track was left and resumes it from the beginning (but it remembers what track). For me the "stop-immediately-and-restart" did not work and I strongly doubt it can be a workaround for the "halfway-resume" issue. To be clear: I (and probably OP, too) would like to: 1. play a track 2. stop the car in the middle of the track 3. come back after > 20 min 4. push FOB -> track starts playing exactly where it left It doesn't (except when skipping step 3) and I'm saying that's how they manufactured it, either intentionally or maybe by mistake. I am not complaining about the headunit starting automatically when I insert FOB. That is how I expect it to behave (if it was stopped by FOB removal), so I do not see any reason in turning it off manually as soon as I enter the car.

Light slowly starts to shine...
Tom, I think you are talking about your experience with iPod and extending it to the integrated headunit playing MP3 from a CD. Is this true? I'm pretty sure psychoactive is talking about MP3 track played from a CD using the OEM headunit. And me too. I'm sure iPod behaves differently than OEM CD player. iPod is an external device to the headunit and OEM CD _is_ the headunit. If I'm right then in iPod case the moment when power is applied to the player (player meaning iPod) matters. And thus the workaround makes sense. For the OEM CD player (meaning headunit) starting/stopping will not help in any way. The unit simply forgets the track position after >20 min. Maybe that's corrected in a new software release, maybe not. LEDZEP, you have a pretty new car, so your software must be up-to-date. When you play MP3 CD, does track resume where it left _even_after_the_car_is_shut_and_closed_ for > 20 min? (BTW, for reference mine is non-iDrive.)

Same problem here, except my CD player even has problems playing burnt CD's! Inserting a store-bought CD works fine, inserting a burnt CD sometimes doesn't play. Same burnt CD plays EVERYWHERE else. Normal?

I get the same. First CD I wrote (MP3) was written at a higher speed. It works, but every once in a while it's ejected out-of-the-blue (mostly at startup and when cold). Never (or very rarely) had this problem with subsequent ones, which I wrote at lower speed. Some say media quality also counts and I believe that. Probably it's best to use good quality media, low (but not 2x) writing speed. Always close the writing session (and use disk-at-once option in Nero). Better avoid RW media.
