H&R Sport springs questions...

Alright, so I want my ride height a bit lower but i had a couple questions.

Does it make a noticeable different when you're cornering, and would the front and rear look equally leveled?

I don't have enough for some Coil overs yet...

sort of. upgraded shocks will help more.
not really. rear still looks slightly "lower" than the front. but still a helluva lot better than stock.

I have yet to install my suspensions but I'm more than likely to bet that you will notice a difference whether it be stiffness of ride or less/more body roll. If anything, this should help you out with the "equally leveled" question.

I love the look of mine with the sports. I think it sits level.

But with that said, you should wait, save the extra $$$ and get coilovers...

Check my garage out with Koni Yellow + HR Sports. IMO never buy just springs, get the shocks to match or your ride will suck.

Yeah Koni FSD's were designed for a more subtle ride (closer to stock) and everyone says that you should only match them to the eibach pro kit or OEM/OEM ZSP. The FSD's are not adjustable. They are self calibrating (I guess that's a way to describe them). The Yellows are adjustable. The H&R sport springs is a pretty good drop so everyone says to match them with the Yellows because they are more designed to handle it.

I've been pretty happy with my setup. It's been about 10K miles and it still rides the same. Everyone says that the FSD's will wear out much quicker with the sport drop but who knows. There are a few others on here with the same setup and are very happy with it.

Either way, my coiilovers will be here in a few days. So I'm selling my setup. If you want to try it out, let me know. I just need you to wait until I get my coils on.

Read the numerous threads on here about all the different setups.

IMO, if you are going to spend the money on springs/shocks, then you may as well buy coilovers.

Try Sonic Tuning S1's, they are a newer, more reasonably priced coilover.

Hey, Just checked them out...They look nice and from comments they sounded durable. Still though 800-almost 1k for s3( i think) is still a bit high for my price range FOR NOW...

EDIT: May skip out on getting wheels and just go ahead and get the coil overs. If i were to get coil overs would i need to get shocks and stuff like i would if i got the H&R sport springs?

That's what will be showing up at my house by Wednesday

Is that what you ended up going with? I read all your posts on the reviews of these but I never saw you actually make the decision for sure...

Dont get coilovers if you really dont need them. If all youre looking for is a drop and improved handling, springs + shocks definitely fit the bill!.

Coilovers are the best suspension solution as all the parts are crafted to function together, as opposed to just lowering springs. The answer is simple, you get what you pay for when it comes to vehicle suspension. As such a crucial component of your vehicle, suspension is definitely something you do not want to cheap out on.

For those of you who are on a budget, I would recommend that you guys check out the Suspension Technique (ST V1) coilovers by KW suspension. Coming from the makers of KW suspension systems the only main difference between the ST Variant 1 and KW Variant 1 is the steel they use. While KW uses Stainless Steel for their shock housing, ST uses Galvanized Steel. However, this does not mean a drop in quality, durability, or appearance. Although coilovers that use galvanized steel are more prone to corrosion due to environmental influences (i.e. mixture of salt water); those in the lower states: California, Texas, Florida, Nevada, etc. don't have to worry about corrosion. Those in the mid to upper States that snow still don't have much to worry about as long as they do not drive in heavy snow conditions upon where salt is used on roads. to further ensure those with doubt about Galvanized Steel, ST has corrosion resistant zinc plating on all of their threaded strut housings for further protection. Feel free to drop me a PM if you guys have any questions at all!

I'm gonna find out how true this is soon enough. Every person on here that has gone from springs/shocks to coilovers completely disagrees. I'm not saying you're wrong and my current setup may not be the best comparison. But either way...can't wait to see the difference..

In my experience, people will force themselves to love their coilovers because they just blew a couple of grand on em. I would see this behavior all the time with my other vehicles. The funny thing is that most of the coilovers that people were buying, were horrendous for handling. Yet people were still heralding that their handling was greatly improved.

Why is it that most of the coilovers sold to the bmw community do not list their rates?

Jose has given the rates for his. They cost the same or less than shocks/springs.

I've read probably 2-3 hundred posts about coils. I have NEVER seen one say that any shock/spring combo could compare. Coils are matched together better than any aftermarket shock/spring combo for one thing.

But you're right...there are some that are going to praise them just because...blah blah..but trust me, you are in the minority on here if you think coils are overrated.
