Smile Update#2 l White & Blue LCD-Blue Buttons

Did the white gauges mod. Easier than I thought it would be once I got a handle on those tiny LED's. Stuck with white needles. I like it better that way.

Also while i was there, removed the module that does the "chime" sound. SO quiet now. Love it. Although, there is no turn signal noise anymore, don't really need that though

Thanks to e90TiAg335i for the thread in the DIY forum!!

New Update-

Got the AC/Heat controls done today. I think it turned out really good. After trying 4 different color diffusers, I think I like the one pictured. The only camara I have is my phone so these will have to do.

Also tried doing the Radio today. BMW has made this a bitch! Different LED's about 1/4 the size of the ones I used for everthing else, which are already tiny. So I hunted those ones down, they are on order. Hopefully next weekend Ill have the radio done. Oh and the heated seat controls are also a whole different LED. Damn you BMW. Ordered those too.

Well on to the pictures. ( I forgot to do the LED's in the knobs at the time of these pics )

Let me know what you think

Looks great. I am debating whether or not to leave the LCD area stock, as the blue makes it look too Japanese-ish.

Wow that looks great! Another request for a link to the DIY/LED emitter site...my laziness is preventing me from searching

EDIT 1: found the DIY thread - http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=503185

Actually, I think the MBs have the blue-ish LCD display, no?

I wouldn't have a problem AT ALL with the blue display, however, I think I see his point of view. if the only LCD screen in the car is blue, and the ambient lighting/screens have an amber tint, it would look cheezy. If you can find LED emitters that match the hue of the screen (closely), then I would tear out the amber LEDs and replace them with those, I think it would make a great color for ambient lighting, especially on a darker interior.

They sure do. But for me, I just like the color better. Looks even better in person!

That's the plan. I want all the interior lighting white/LCD screen matching the dash. Hopefully i'll get to it soon.

Is there a way to black out the LCD display and just leave the white LED numbers in the instrument cluster? It'll be kinda like a stealth/ghost background LCD........I think that might look kinda cool?

Someone needs to fill up!

If I'm staring at the odo the whole time, it's not a bad nor expensive mod to do but the rest of the car will still be orange.. Is it just me or does the DIY remind you of the Lexus IS odometer?

Looks great! I've thought about placing more diffuser material behind the lcd to try and darken it some, just haven't got around to it yet. You can also change ALL of the other LEDs in the car to white with the same LEDs used in the cluster. It is a lot of work though! I've also done the HVAC display in a friends car. You'll need to remove the orange diffuser and replace with white. I used diffuser material from an old laptop lcd. Happy modding!!!

Yah, I think you're right.

Like the other member said though, I think to match you'll need to change out all the LEDs in the car. It's quite a lot of work, more than most of us is willing to do, lol.

Halfway done with the HVAC controls. Ran out of led's. Temp control LCD matches the gauges LCD perfectly. Just need another batch of led's and then ill finish and get started on the radio..

I used a blue diffuser and the led's and it matches perfect for HVAC. How did your white one turn out?

The white matches the cluster but may be a tad bit brighter.
