Comfort Access Problems

Is anyone else having problems with the Comfort Access not locking or unlocking when you touch the door handle?

Mine was fine until about a month ago and then all of a sudden just started giving me problems. Sometimes it will lock or unlock after multiple attempts, but now most of the time I pull out the FOB to use.

do you carry a cell phone in your pocket?

I found that when my cell is in the same pocket as ca fob, it does exactly as you described. If I move the phone to another pocket it works perfectly again.

no problems here - the unlocking is almost telepathic. I walk right up touch the handle and the doors instantly unlock.

maybe try replacing the battery in your fob and if that doesn't fix it bring it in to the dealer

Yes,

Why would this do something?

And I always have the cell phone with me.

This is getting interesting.

a lot people on this board have experienced a decrease in CA performance after getting metallic tint installed. Perhaps causing interference with the radio signals?

I always have a cell phone with me but no problems with CA

Yes

A metallic tint on the rear windscreen causes the problems you are having

The antenna for the key to "talk" to the car is in the rear windscreen

Replacing the rear window tint with a non-metallic type has cleared up this problem for 99.99999% of cases

how common is metallic tint? are the metallic tints the ones that look somewhat reflective? i just got plain charcoal 35% on all windows, and my CA still works fine...but now you are making me nervous. i did not specify when i had the tint applied. (fingers crossed)

If you didn't specify ceramic tint, you got metallic. Ceramic tint is less common and a lot more expensive.

FWIW, it seems a lot of people with metallic tint don't have any problems with CA. So if you aren't having any issues, I wouldn't worry about it.

But for those who are thinking of getting window tint, if you have CA I'd say be safe and go with ceramic. Huper Optik Ceramic and FormulaONE Pinnacle seem to be the most popular on this forum.

I'm sure I'm but sorry...

How would metalic tint stop CA? I would think the receiver would be in the window and the tint would technically be behind the window done from the inside right? I would think (and I am CERTAINLY no electronic technician) that metal touching a receiving wire would make it work better not worse. Always seem to work for the rabbit ears on my TV.

Um Big Hole in the theory here. Not ALL Tint is Either Metallic or ceramic. If you have a reflective "Metallic Looking" film on your windows it is either Metallic or Ceramic true. Most likely metallic unless you paid especially for ceramic.

However, if you just got a grey, charcoal, bronze, tint applied and you didn't specify Metallic or ceramic it's most likely just Dye based tint and shouldn't have any effect on CA.

I thought CA has several antennas in order to calculate if the key is on the drivers side, passengers side or inside the car...

Hi,

I too started having problems with my CA not opening/locking the doors and the gas cap not responding like it once did about a month ago. Ironically, right after I got my metalic tint installed. What burns me up is that I did my research here and bimmerfest, knew that ceramic or non-metallic tint was the way to go, but got convinced by the dealer and the tint company that it wasn't a problem. Well, now I have a problem.

I too want to know where the CA antenna is on my rear window. Not only do I have a CA problem, but my rear window has that long dot matrix at the top causing my tint job to be less then satisfactory, thus I am going to have to pay to get it redone anyway. But really only need the rear replaced, was thinking about leaving the side windows as they are with metallic tint. This time I want to do the rear window right, but the new tint guy says he will sand my dot matrix down even further. I just want to make sure he doesnt damage the CA antenna in doing so. So does anyone know if sanding at the top of the rear window could damage the CA reception and if there are other CA antennas that the front/side windows with metallic tint cause interferrence?

Thanks
