How do I open the flap/valve in my left exhaust?
Before saying anything, this is my first posts and sorry if this is in the wrong section b/c im new here
Now, I picked up a 2008 335i coupe convertible and noticed there is a flap in the left exhaust when the car is idle. My close friend got a 09 335i coupe, not convertible, and told me in order to open the valve you have to open the thing in the trunk on the left and pull out the plug. I was with him when i tried doing it but i couldnt find the right plug, and idk what to do inorder to open the valve. Can anyone tell me a method to open the flap/valve? Also does it void the warranty & in anyway damage the car? Thanks ! |

The connector that your friend described is black and mounted in the trunk behind the panel on the back drivers side. It has black rubber hose connected to it. Its held in place by a rubber mount. It also has a piece of wire that you need to push in to release the connector. Push it in and pull the connector apart. Job done.

look down under the back drivers side. At the exhaust you'll see a vacuum line there on that one. Pull the vacuum line off and the flap will open. Now take a screw that fits and shove it in the vacuum line you just pulled off. Now tuck the vacuum line up in the rear fender well and your done. Sounds "right" and with the screw or a golf tee in there, no codes.

Or people who just like quiet exhaust. It doesn't make a shit anyhow, since the DME will command that flap "open" under high load. The "golf tee mod" just makes it louder everywhere below that load threshold.

is there such a thing on the 328? i remember my mom's e46 330ci had a butterfly valve that would open at high rpm's but you could also get under the tailpipes and open it yourself with a screwdriver
