May 2007 Dealer installed IPOD

I am scheduled to receive my 335i Sedan at the end of May. I know that on post March production the 6FL option was available. I didn't order the 6FL option when I ordered two weeks ago since I currently don't have an IPOD and figured I could add it later on if I get one. After reading the reviews about the dealer installed IPOD integration kit (the one that uses the 6 CD changer hookup, 255 artist limit) I am now wishing I had ordered it since that one doesn't nearly compare to the 6FL features. Well, the car is built and it's too late now.

However, since my car was built in April, does that mean it is pre-wired for a USB port so that the dealer installed option will act the same as the 6FL option? Or will I be stuck with the current dealer install ipod kit and be stuck with the 255 limits. Man, wish I would have known this before I ordered.

Presumably the dealer installed option is just a CD-changer emulator. So It interfaces to the CD changer wiring or hangs somewhere off of the MOST bus and sends and receives CD-changer commands and responses from the dealer device.

My guess is that 6FL is just another MOST bus device (like a CD changer), but specificly for talking to IPOD's USB serial interface and IPOD/generic USB storage devices. 6FL would presumably be a seperate peripheral, supported by PROGMAN, with its own protocol.

If I have a 6 disc CD changer, can I still play the IPOD through the Aux input (I know I won't be able to control it through I-Drive)

I tried to order 6FL but it was too late.
I believe that BMW will update the dealer installed kit to take advantage of the USB...just be patient and use the current AUX; that's exactly what I am going to do.
Most likely, the after March iDrive/Software has USB retrofit availability.
Be patient...

Do you have any information that this is in the works or is it speculation?

You can play anything into the AUX input. Sound quality should be very good.

Tommyvee-
This is just speculation right now...I am working on getting real news. I will update you as soon as I confirm.
The only person I can remember that is absolutely happy with his retrofit is Mr. Spira (JSpira).
I'll wait for a better retrofit, burn MP3 on DVD (if you have idrive)' or use the iPod directly via the dock connector and AUX.
One can hold a lot of MP3 file on a 4.7 GB DVD! 10 DVDs give you almost 50GB!

No plans for 6FL retrofit kit at this time. The after market iPod option is the MOST bus Interface for iPod.

Ja, I am very happy with this but the 6FL option is much better in several respects. My 550i will have the 6FL option.

Could you please elaborate on the MOST bus Interface after market option? Or do you mean the only option we'll have in the medium term is the dealer kit already available?
Thank you-

Congrats on the upcoming 550! Does this mean you are abandoning us soon?

I have the MOSt interface system. Do a search on my name and it shold come up. The short of it is, If you have a sizeable music selection, be prepared to wait 2 min for music to play on anything other than the CD1 (playlists.) So be prepared to make a crap load of Playlists. Mind you this is every time you start the car. I my self am very dissatisfied with the MOST system. needed to spend a few more months in Q&A
