Options for a LIGHT 18"wheel for track only use

I need to get some track wheels and r compound tires...these will only be used for track. Anyone have suggestions for a 18X8.5 and 18X9.5 staggered set up. I would like 19 lbs or less per wheel. I want 18" wheels so that I have more options on R compound tires. 19" track wheels are not suggested at all.

Suggestions?

Fikse? Kinesis? Champion Motorsports? these may be too expensive...my shop recommended CCW? here is what they look like...Apparently lots of the national champ level autocrossers in my region are using these:

I would add Volk to your list, definitely up with the rest in terms of quality and weight- or lack there of.

ccw are nice track wheels - however, they really aren't cheap either - all of my dedicated track wheels I've owned have just been cheap wheels that I could easily replace if need be (and many times I had to)... I'm looking into a set of 18" Rota's or replica CSLs right now...

You mentioned some pretty expensive wheels, but for light track 18's I would definitely look to volk. You can get a lightweight staggered setup and it won't break the bank either. CE28n's are very light, and pretty strong too. Te37's are another popular choice too.

TireRack sell two 18" in staggered fitments that might fit the bill...both weigh about 18.5 pounds each:

SSR Type C RS 18x8.5 $460
SSR Type C RS 18x9.5 $470
RMotorsport MT1 18x8 $339
RMotorsport MT1 18x9.5 $369

Volks are definately nice...but they will be up there in terms of price, no? UUC Motorwerks also sell Forgeline wheels which look interesting...but again they are up there in terms of price.

If I had that much money to spend on track day wheels...I think it would probably end up being either Volks or BBS...otherwise those rims on TireRack look promising for much cheaper...

I wouldn't use rotas as track wheels, I have seen a few threads where those rims have failed. Its not something that you want when you are pushing your car at the track. You can search the web, they don't have the best reputation out there.

I disagree.

They have quite a good reputation amoung the Subaru community...at least locally in Norcal. I've personally used them (2 sets) during auto-x events, and I know tons more people that have, I've never seen one instance of them failing personally. A few years back I did see online there was an issue, but rota was quick to fix the problem.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/arch.../t-309119.html

Although I have BBS currently, I'll prob be ordering a set of these from Zoeb this summer so I can track on 18's with thicker rubber.

yup, that was a long time ago, all issues have been fixed

anything made recently has not had issues (unless u run them into a curb or something extreme)

I've personally gone through 25 sets of rota wheels on my subaru, and i've seen a ton of these on the track with no issues.

not to mention the 19" wheels(silver ones in sig) that I have on my 335i, running 235/35/19 & 265/30/19

Ok, that is good to hear if they have improved in quality, but I wasn't pulling that out of my ass. There were definite reports of failures, but if you sell them I guess you know better then me if they have changed.

If you want light weight, you can't get any lighter than Dymag magnesium/carbon fibre. They're used on the Konissegg CCX.

Yes, any magnesium forged rim is going to be the lightest. BBS, Volk and others offer this if anyone so desires.

Ditto that. I ran Rota's on my WRX and they were great. They were my first choice of wheel for my e90, but they didn't make them for our cars when I was shopping so I settled with SSR's.

Definitely the best wheels if you're on a budget

well.......hmmmm......I would go for NEEZ if the budget is not such an issue. Lightweight and fairly reasonable....well, ok fine. they're nowhere near reasonable, but hey, might as well go for a good set that will let you perform at your best on the track..... Not the QD7s, but one of these - http://www.eisenhaus.com/deals3.php

CCW's are a great wheel. The three piece wheel on the E46 CCW does not recommend due to brake clearance issues with 335i sport package cars and future BBK's. Their One piece wheels are a better choice and have more offset options. TCKline had Rays build a custom TE37 wheel for them in several widths and offsets in the 5x120 bolt pattern. I am going to test fit for 9.5 all around and 265 R Compound R888's. Good luck and let us know what you get.

Did you test fit them yet? Worried about 265s in front...
