Hi Guys,
Hope things are well?!

My car flashed up with the oil indicator on dash about a week ago, Im due to get it serviced soon so thought I would leave it..
Im off on a bit of a run in it tomorrow so thought Id check the level to make sure it isnt dry, well it was.. slightly below min level!

So I got a ltr of Castrol Edge 5W-30 - Was that the right buy? - Will 1Ltr cover me for a couple hundred miles or should I have bought more?

Should easily be enough. Infact I'd only put half in if you're near a service - this should take it to around 1/2 way between the dipstick marks.

3.0 diesels have about 6.75 litres of oil in them I think - I assume thats to max level, but not sure. The difference between the min/max marks is about 1 litre I think. If its near a service putting the full litre in would be a waste IMO.
