Hello just wondering if it's possible to purchase a used 2011 3 series and have it cpo'd after the fact, or do I need to include that in the negotiations with the dealer?

I think it should be part of the negotiations upfront. When I was shopping for a CPO'd 328i, I saw 2010 and 2011 models with low miles. Most of those were "Dealer took the title" aka loaner cars. I didn't want to buy the loaner cars. A few were low miles single owner car, probably lease break or may be dealer buybacks. But none of the dealers will CPO the car or even pay money for buying the 6yr/100K extended warranty. The dealer kept saying it has almost 3 yr FREE maintenance and 3 yrs of warranty left on the car, why should we CPO it anyway.

Thanks but I just want to know if it's possible, or do I have to do it prior to purchase. I will be buying out state and need to find out if I can do it after I bring it back, or if it's required at the time of purchase.

The whole point of CPO is before purchase so the dealer can do whatever is needed to bring the car up to BMW standards before being sold - e.g. windshield, tires, etc.

If you are going to buy it after the purchase, why not just wait and buy an extended warranty before your factory warranty runs out? If you have nav, you will definitely want the warranty vs. CPO as CPO doesn't cover it.

As noted above, in many cases the after-the-fact extended warranty is better.

I don't think it needs to be prior to purchase unless factory warranty has expired.

^ Right, that's what I'm talking about. That's the extended warranty/maintenance. That is NOT a CPO.

For example, my car has the factory warranty that expires in December. I can extend the factory warranty/maintenance like you note above, but it WON'T be CPO'd.

Only BMW dealerships can CPO a used BMW. And it has to be before they sell it.

What is listed above is the extended "maintenance", this is seperate from extended warranty. You can buy either or both, but the extended maintenence will offer no warranty, just pay for scheduled maintenance.

The extended warranty is around 2k-3k, depending if you want powertrain, gold or platinum coverage, and depending how many years/miles you want to extend. It includes no scheduled maintenance, that is purchased seperately as above.
