CPO after purchase?
Hello just wondering if it's possible to purchase a used 2011 3 series and have it cpo'd after the fact, or do I need to include that in the negotiations with the dealer?

I think it should be part of the negotiations upfront. When I was shopping for a CPO'd 328i, I saw 2010 and 2011 models with low miles. Most of those were "Dealer took the title" aka loaner cars. I didn't want to buy the loaner cars. A few were low miles single owner car, probably lease break or may be dealer buybacks. But none of the dealers will CPO the car or even pay money for buying the 6yr/100K extended warranty. The dealer kept saying it has almost 3 yr FREE maintenance and 3 yrs of warranty left on the car, why should we CPO it anyway.

Thanks but I just want to know if it's possible, or do I have to do it prior to purchase. I will be buying out state and need to find out if I can do it after I bring it back, or if it's required at the time of purchase.

If you are going to buy it after the purchase, why not just wait and buy an extended warranty before your factory warranty runs out? If you have nav, you will definitely want the warranty vs. CPO as CPO doesn't cover it.

Dealer told me has to be prior to purchase.
As noted above, in many cases the after-the-fact extended warranty is better.

From BMW Website: BMW MAINTENANCE PROGRAM UPGRADE When you invest in a BMW, you can drive confidently knowing your vehicle includes the BMW Maintenance Program, covering all factory-recommended maintenance and specific items requiring replacement due to normal wear and tear at no charge, for the first 4 years/50,000 miles, whichever comes first. But your confidence doesn't need to end there. You may have the option to purchase an upgrade for an additional 2 years/50,000 miles, extending your maintenance coverage up to a total of 6 years/100,000 miles, for applicable models-its coverage and value are unmatched. The Maintenance Program Upgrade option also extends the standard 4 years/unlimited mileage BMW Roadside* Assistance Program benefit period by an additional 2 years/unlimited mileage for a total of 6 years/unlimited mileage. All covered maintenance program services are performed at an authorized BMW center, by a BMW-trained technician, using only Original BMW Parts. So your Ultimate Driving Machine® can stay that way. Certain limitations and exclusions apply to this program; please see your local authorized BMW Center for details or visit www.bmwusa.com/mpdisclaimer For vehicle eligibility and purchasing details, please visit your local authorized BMW center. ^ Right, that's what I'm talking about. That's the extended warranty/maintenance. That is NOT a CPO.
For example, my car has the factory warranty that expires in December. I can extend the factory warranty/maintenance like you note above, but it WON'T be CPO'd. Only BMW dealerships can CPO a used BMW. And it has to be before they sell it.

What is listed above is the extended "maintenance", this is seperate from extended warranty. You can buy either or both, but the extended maintenence will offer no warranty, just pay for scheduled maintenance.

The extended warranty is around 2k-3k, depending if you want powertrain, gold or platinum coverage, and depending how many years/miles you want to extend. It includes no scheduled maintenance, that is purchased seperately as above.
