USB and Y cable not working

I have the 6fl USB option and use a Y cable to play songs from my iPhone . It has now started to cut out and stop working. On the radio display the iPod icon disappears leaving just the USB icon and the music stops. Other times the steering wheel controls stop working and the song display sticks on a song yet the album continues to play. Anyone any ideas,could it be the Y cable or the car that's faulty.

Recently updated the software on your iPhone?
Anyway someone could lend you another cable to test it, or maybe test with another iPhone?

If it disappears from the display then it is not the Y cable, but it will be the USB module, it is under the passenger carpet in the floor.
