Difference between Pre LCI and LCI Front Tyre Profile

So there is a difference between the front tyre profile of the pre LCI and LCI.
Old were 40's and new are 45's

330d/335d/335i M Sport Pre LCI Saloon

Tyres Front 225/40 R18
Tyres Rear 255/35 R18

330d/335d/335i M Sport LCI Saloon

Tyres Front 225/45 R18
Tyres Rear 255/35 R18

The strange thing is the coupe still retains the 40 profile in the LCI.

What affect would this profile difference have to the car? Would the LCI not handle as well with the higher profile? Why did BMW do this? For you guys who have driven or owned both, is there much difference?

Cheers.
Andy

My 330D M Sport saloon LCI (2009) has 225/40 R18 on the front.

My E91 touring LCI also "retains" the 40-series fronts profile.

As far as I know the tyre sizes remained the same. I had a 08 E91 330d M Sport which I changed in Sept last year for the same thing but new. Both had exactly the same size tyres.

Where are you getting the 'new' figure? It is certainly not a pre LCI, post LCI change. Post LCI brochures ran the same tyre sizes.

Running the BMW configurator for samples of those models mentioned, it still shows the same as always, for 18" tyre sizes.

There are mistakes in the BMW official site in some of the technical data, if that's where the detail comes from. For example, the 330d M-sport saloon still has the 231bhp engine.

Cheers guys for the replies.
I got the information about tyre size from here:

http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/pricesand...calSpec&isPGA= shows the fronts with 45's

But it certainly sounds like they havent changed it from whats been said. It doesnt say anything in the brochure about 330d tyre size other than it has "....193M wheels with mixed tyres..."

The reason for asking is I'm picking up my brand new one on the 1st Sep so wondering if they had actually changed them.

Just looked over on Blackcircles.com and (providing BMW are still fitting Bridgestone RE050A runflats) you cant get Bridgestone RE050A runflats in 225/45 R18. They only do them in 225/40 R18.

I take it they are still fitting Bridgestone RE050A runflats to LCI's?

I emailed BMW the other day and got this reply:

Thank you for your online enquiry dated August 28, 2011.

I would like to thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. I can confirm that none of the 18 inch alloy wheels specified for use with the BMW 3 Series Coupé or Saloon feature tyres with a 45mm profile. All of our recommended 18 inch wheels feature 225/40 tyres.

Our Website Team are currently working to resolve this issue and I trust that this has resolved your query; however, if you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me again.

Yours sincerely

BMW UK

So they need to fix the website.
