trackmaster vs aLapRecorder (Android-based Data Acquisition)

I've been using trackmaster with a Qstarz 818X bluetooth GPS this year for data acquisition, rather successfully. What's lacking is OBDII interfacing (in development since 2010) and the fact that intermittent loss of connectivity to the external GPS hoses the entire app. This happens in cloudy/rainy weather even with the GPS running down at 1Hz instead of 5Hz. Works well otherwise and syncs up well with my GoPro video via Dashware.

I just came across aLapRecorder at http://adyno.net/ which seems promising, on paper at least, including fetching IAT, coolant info etc from the BT OBDII interface.

Has anybody tried this app? any feedback? I ordered one of the confirmed to work elm327 v1.4 OBDII interfaces, should arrive in ~2 weeks.

Haven't tried it, but seems interesting. My early experiments with these systems was frustrating (last year) and so I went for a dedicated setup that 'bolted on':
http://trackmeep.posterous.com/video-methodology

And had 10 hz gps. This allows me to really see differences between laps and me/other drivers that were kind enough to record a few laps or also had performance boxes (data logger). I found I learned a ton from the analysis and enjoyed the video vs. learned from it.

I'm now moving onto the AiM Solo DL setup with direct CANBus hookups to learn more. I'd recommend this as well.

Looking forward to your results though - if good I can get rid of the expensive stuff and go back to simple!

IMO you went down the right path, I doubt this simple solution will ever be at the level of a AiM or traqmate but let's see how close they get...I'll let you know once I get the OBDII module.

Btw, dashware looks interesting. Are there any videos you can share that show the output?

Dashware is quite a gem. It recognizes all the major data acquisition formats and imports them automatically. trackmaster files are in the racechrono format so it's plug and play. Then off to sync with video which is super easy.

here's my gauge template from earlier this year

this is what I'm running now. I modified the speedo range to match the BMW one. Hoping to find a way to start collecting the data you have (but at a lower price point), IAT, water/oil temps for analysis.
