Why wouldn't you go to Stony Brook? For a state school, their science/engineering departments are world renown.

NYU PolyTech is also getting there. It's too new of a school to judge as of yet.

And if you're really serious about doing well and transferring..the best engineering schools in NY will be Cornell or Columbia SEAS.

But Stony Brook is obviously the best choice.

Maritime is a great school man. My bro went to Kings Point. I work supporting the Power Plants on Long Island and there are a ton of people from Maritime that work there. If I were you, I would stick it out. You'll come out with more experience and qualifications from Maritime than you would with any other school.

I went to SUNY Binghamton for Mechanical Engineering and it was good, but I'd rather be making 50 grand for 4 months of sailing which is what you can do if you stay with Maritime.

I went to RIT in Rochester, but not for engineering. However engineering was huge there. You can PM me if you're interested in going there.

I currently am a senior MEC student at Stony Brook and I would definitely recommend it. The professors are top notch and the program is ranked very highly. Believe it or not, I am currently studying under a professor that invented intercooling systems for turbochargers...it's pretty cool.

If the school is ABET certified it's probably a safe bet no matter which one you pick

I went to Manhattan College in Riverdale, NY (The Bronx). I studied Civil Engineering but they offer majors in Mechical, Computer, Electrical, Chemical, etc. They are accredited and there is a great alumni network. There are no less than 10 other MC gradutes at the company I work for, which is pretty high considering its a 100 person company.

I would highly suggest looking into, there are a lot of students from Long Island there as well. More than 75% of the people on the lacrosse team I was on were from Long Island.

+1 - went there and got my BS in Computer Engineering. I attended the Brooklyn Campus. I sacrificed a "fun" college experience for this school but in the end paid off.

I currently go here, entering my second year now. Yea the male female situation at the brooklyn campus is a bit lame but it is part of NYU and you can take courses at NYU and use all of the NYU facilities so it isn't as bad as you think. Besides NYU, there is also The Cooper Union, that is also in the TOP for engineering, but you must also be the TOP student for that place. But that place is also limited on the females.

One last thing, you are in NYC if your going to any of these places, so if on campus ladies aren't exactly fun, and your still not getting anything in the city alone, then we've got problems

Cool, My brother is going into his junior year at Poly at the Brooklyn campus. One of my close friends was part of the first graduating class after NYU took over.Work hard, it pays off and having NYU on your resume is a major plus.

My cousin just graduated from Cooper but shes a fool, she decided she doesnt want to do engineering and is going to NYU Dental now lol

Believe it or not Stony Brook has one of the top engineering programs in the country and it is ABET accredited. Not to mention most people would consider it in a different league when compared to NYIT, no offense.
