Painted my wheel hubs today....
Hello guys just thought id share with you all one of the many jobs I did to the car today, so you can see the difference, and if you where thinking of having a go, I cant recommend it enough! brilliant results....
I used Hammerite 'straight to rust' hammered finish, which doesn't require you to clean and wire-brush the hubs first (but I did anyway) and the 'hammered finish' as it doesn't catch the eye as much as the smooth finish does (from what iv seen when google-ing painted hubs). The hammered finish just seems more like the original factory finish when the car was new. Still cant believe iv had to do this though, on a two year old car - the rust appeared after only a few months! and only just done something about it. The missus' 8year old peugeot doesn't even have this problem! after discussing this with the local dealer the other day when I was there to have the rear BMW badge replaced under warranty as it was bubbling - but that's another story, he said that BMW have addressed this issue now using a different metal/finish to prevent hubs rusting but its made no difference! he showed me a brand new 5 series in the showroom that had small signs of rust, and that hadn't even driven on the road yet!! sort it out BMW! Anyways enjoy, hope this helps some people..... |

Laqcuering sounds like a good idea to me mate, preserve the original finish, they will rust, many posts on many forums about it. But if you decide to leave it atleast its a quick and easy solution....
