Had the car 3 weeks today
Just thought id write a few (too many whooops!) words on the 3rd week that ive had my 330d m Sport.
Well after my initial test drive of a 330d m Sport i was a bit worried about the MPG of the car (first car I tried didn’t go above 22mpg), but after finding one that I liked and asking for a comprehensive test drive i was hooked. Managed nearly 41mpg on an average of back roads, A roads, Motorways etc A bit daft buying a 3litre and worrying about MPG you may think? I was originally looking for, and was happy going for a 320d M Sport to replace my Focus RS back in December last year. But after being offered an Astra 888 I decided to go for this as I was struggling to sell privately! I had to get a diesel originally as my 340bhp RS wasn’t doing me any favors after my old place of work went bust and over 100 people lost there jobs. I eventually found work and am still here, problem being it was 30miles a day, not alot still you say, but when I have been doing 30miles... a week! Before I could no longer afford to have a fast fun car! I slumped for the Astra 888 after not being able to find a buyer for the Focus (we did a PX in the end) but had always wanted an E90. So when I got offered a contract at my new employment and being offered a nice pay rise to what I was used to I decided it was time to start the hunt again! I found my current vehicle for sale 70/80 miles away from where I lived but made time to travel over and have a look around, had a very good long test drive and was hooked. Was offered a very very very good price as a PX for my Astra 888 too which pretty much sealed the deal to be honest! Ended my first tank of fuel on 43.4mpg and am currently on 45.5mpg on my second tank, got a nice run over to Birmingham next week so hopefully it will rise up even further :-) Must say I am very impressed with it so far, its solid, comfy, and I love the way you can just “waft” along in it without being noticed. Its perfectly happy on a sensible commute as it is a nice weekend hoon with the driving aids switched off! I love the way it looks, smart, but subtle, and even more so I love the way it sounds! Not like a tractor like my Astra was! I think ive got possibly the best diesel I could get! Was originally going to buy it and chuck some money at it, tinted windows, remap etc but im going to leave it alone for the first year, which ive never managed before! A choice partially made by my insurance telling me no mods, and partially by how happy I am with the car as it is. Im so glad I went for the 330d M Sport as opposed to the 320d M Sport, I was worried that after getting used to a supposed 55mpg in the astra that the 330d would leave me seriously out of pocket, but strangely it costs me exactly the same each week to run it!!! With the added bonus of being £400 cheaper to insure! The only thing I will say is…. I hate cleaning the wheels! The astra had anthracite wheels and they didn’t need to be cleaned, well, when I did, it made no difference! Im going to miss that… and only that! :-) Brace yourselves for a barrage of pictures when I crack the DLSR tomorrow! Sorry for waffling! |

I am
I only had the Astra 6 months, so well see what happens Anyway, gave the car a quick wash last night, and woke up early this morning so i thought id treat it so a polish and a wax! Not great pictures because typically as soon as i finished the rain started! So the DSLR will stay in the draw, again! Crappy weather doesnt do it any justice either! |

I went down a similar path, had a Leon FR diesel with a few bits done, de dpf'd custom map etc, that was putting out 231bhp, and was a little concerned swapping to the 330 that my mpg was going to take a big hit, I've averaged 44.1mpg over the past 10k miles which is about 4mpg better than I was getting from the Leon
This is also pretty much the first car I've had where I haven't been looking at other cars thinking about changing all the time - I've had the car around 18 months now - done 24k miles in it, and I still can't fault it |

Nice looking motor Danny
I had a similar quandary too, was running an r32, 36 mile round trip to work an £80 a week in petrol! I'm really going to miss the power but looking forward to 55mpg Che

We have an LCI 330d Touring Auto so exactly what you are considering. Search my posts and you will see how delighted I am. MPG has averaged out at 37.1 which considering that is mainly a 15 mile commute on hilly Cornish A/B roads is outstanding for a big 245 bhp auto. 70 mph on a motorway easily sees 50 mpg.
The most 'complete' car I have ever owned by a long way. |
