You'd have no problems finding 245's

So what else will fir the rears then?
Ill go for 225/40/18 for the front as per whats already there Just spotted the rears are 35s? does this matter or is this standard? So what range can i fit on the rear, safe to go for 245/40 then? Or do they have to be 245/35? |

If you stay with 18's but go 255's you will need to go 255 40 18

Nice car! As i only intend to use these for the winter, it makes sense to use the smallest i can safetly use, as this should be cheaper! So the smallest i can safetly go on the staggered set up would be 245? if theres no danger with this ill go that route instead of buying 255s for the winter if that makes sense? ive just seen a thread in technical with a gentleman asking about spacers on his mv3 staggered winter set up, ive sent him a PM also, looks like he is running 245/40s on that |

You will be fine running 225's all round. Cheaper and easier to source. Do a search and you'll see its common practice in places that get a significant amount of snow compared to us.
Not an answer to your question I realise, but hopefully another option to consider. Link |

Yes, its perfectly safe. If you had the se spec instead of m sport you'd be on 225's as standard. The fact you have 12.5mm more wheel width makes the best part of sod all difference to anything.
The physics behind the same mass over a smaller surface area in thick snow still stands true. In the slush we get 255's will give better forward momentum, but for the sake of the extra money and not personally being into winter rallying with my work hack, 225's do the job nicely. |

Best get a set of 17" off Ebay.
Makes sense in the long run if you are keeping the car.

Hi
I'm currently on the hunt for a set of winters for my staggered MV3's and have seen other threads specifically say you can't fit 225's all around as they would be too stretched on the rears? 8J fronts, 8.5J rears on the M Sports? I must admit, just looking at them I can't see the fronts physically fitting on the rears. 245/40's get a few mentions though? Any experts clarify this for sure?

I would seriously consider buying some 17's, you can pick them up for £100 off ebay, and the 17" tyres will be at least £100 cheaper than 18s, plus you save again as you only fit once and when you slide into a curb you will be grateful that you have not fucked your rim and haven't got the expense of refurbing that.
A 225 tyre will fit an 8.5 rim, however it will mean the tyre is a little stretched, an 8.5 rim is 216mm wide, so only 4.5mm a side to spare, again meaning curbs will seem like magnets. 17's on 205/50/17 or 225/45/17 are ideal and will do what they are meant to do far better than 255s. |
