That's right. about 2weeks ago I put the Borla aggressive and race pipe on my car. After driving it for the day the driver side muffler started rubbing the bumper. So today I jacked it up and re-aligned everything. I can't get the driver side to align properly. I've tried everything in the world. The passenger side is acceptable, but not great. Overall this system sucks on fitment. My plan is to get a refund on it being it's literally new. I spent 4hrs on the intial install and about another 4hrs today trying to get things to work right. That's a lot of effort and time on my behalf.


Probably going with a Vanguard b/c they includ some shims to re-install the tunnel plate which obviously most other people didn't even mention. Sorry, but I had to rant... I was all torqued up earlier today. Red hot.

I used Borla products for many years and can't say they are necessarily better/worse than others, but never had issues like yours.

Me, I would first call the folks at Borla directly and see what they say. Again, over the years they have always been very responsive, but of course, things change.

Tried calling them today, they're closed. M-F type operation. Tomorrow is labor day, so I'm assuming their off. Try again Tues while I'm at work. Everything fit fine until you get to the rear mufflers. I think it has to do with the fact this kit fits BOTH the sedan and couple.

Maybe you are just failing at the install. Never heard of any problems with it before.

No I doubt it....the only problem there will be is the length, if they supposedly fit both the sedan and the coupe....Vanguard V1 were supposedly fit both the coupe and sedan, but ended up being that the coupe version is about an inch or two longer than the sedans. But technically, they still fit according to vanguard.....but since they have come out with the V2 with adjustable tips, problem solved!

i would take it to a muffler shop and let them do it.

it's ezier when it's on the lift and maybe weld some of the pipes together since borla comes in multiple small pieces to prevent any leaks.

Doesnt borla use clamps? Sounds like you need to rotate the entire exhaust clockwise to fix your problem.

I've installed a lot of exhausts. On harder cars. Hell I've built my own turbo engines and run MicroTech standalone computers from Australia. It's not me. This exhaust has poor fitment. It does not want to hit the hangers properly.


Who makes an exhaust specifically for the sedan?

youre gonna have to keep rotating the whole setup clockwise and counter clockwise until it sits right. thats the shitty thing about this system. i had the magnaflow version (honestly, they both have the same concept and design, clamp on exhaust w/ x pipe and bullet style mufflers. wouldnt be surprised if they copied each other or collaborated) and it took some fiddling to get it right.

the only difference between the sedan and coupe exhausts is a little bit of length they add to the end to have the tips sit far enough to fill out the bumper cutouts. i ran a coupe magnaflow on my sedan for half a year, no issues.

This system sucks. Period. ^exact problems I am having! I've clocked everything six ways from sunday. Another thing. On borla's website they show the system hangers with barbs, like the OEM hangers. My system just has metal rods sticking out. So they pull right out of the hanger bushings. So they cheaped it up in that department also.

holy shit thats terrible. have you tried to dispute this with your cc company or something? looks like youve done more than any reasonable person would have attempted by now to get it to fit

^Exactly my plan. I'm going to call them tomorrow. Ordering a HKS tonight b/c I need this car back on the road in good condition ASAP. Plan to box this pile shiz up and get a full refund either through Autoanything or dispute it on my C.C.

I notice the Borla Exhausts on most platforms are a little tough on fitment. Not that its bad but it requires TEDIOUS install and attention to detail.

They very well might have cut corners.

I remember on my borla a few cars ago it took a while to get it lined up.

I prefer exhausts with flanges for this reason.

Borla deffinately cut corners. Like I previously stated. the hangers are just metal rods sticking out. No actual "barb".

Tried going the cheaper route... get what you pay for. But for $1,400 you think they could actually put barbs on the hangers. Not just 5/16" round bar. I had a Tanabe system on my '91 Turbo Supra. Fitment and quality were out of this world. I love Japan products.

Only thing left to see is if the factory tunnel plate will work with the HKS or not. IF not, I need to see by how much. Either spacers or have a shop modify it.

Used to have a Borla on my old car and I REALLY loved it..

BUT...Id have to be out of my mind to put something Borla on my BMW...Just doesnt add up

Oh and I realized all the Borla pipes all use universal everything...so I wonder how much tuning and R&D really goes into their product before it hits the shelves...
