Is there any 335i using E85 fuel?? I\'m asking because I just got my 335i but prior, I had a 300zx TT and I started using E85 to get away from buying meth, race gas.

Some people mix E85 with their gasoline. You can't run straight E85 due to the fueling issues we have. We would need a bigger pump and injectors to go straight E85, and thats not available currently.

plus the fact the whole fueling system is not designed to run straight E85

It is OK for a stock N54 regarding fuel amount but not at high power levels where the fueling system capacity is near the roof. It takes about 40% more E85 in volume to make the same power as with gasoline. Bonuses are you can run higher compression though, or more timing advance. The long term effects by E85 on the N54 and its fuel system is yet to find out. It is not sure that these components will survive a strong ethanol concentration during prolonged usage. It is safer to use methanol injection that will spare the fuel system from being exposed to alcohol.

Been running blends of 50/50 of pump 93 and E85 for a couple of months with no issues.

Well on my Z; I used 555cc with stock fuel pump with no issues( on 15psi to 20) I started to experience fuel issues at higher boost levels.
91oct vs e85 IMO and experience; 91 is not even in the same ballpark, with e85 and 1000cc injectors I dynoed 607rwhp and on 91oct same boost levels (20-23psi) 490rwhp. Also on E86 my motor ran a lot smoother and 0 ping. |

We need someone offering to run straight e85 on max 14 psi of boost for 1 year :-) to test fueling system.
Hopefully by then we will be able to get bigger pump/injectors.

As stated above our injectors just cant handle pure E85. I think someone on N54 tech tried it and was running way to lean with bad idle and stuff.
I run about a 20% mixture with 93 oct. 15psi boost with no timing drops. I have procede, FMIC, catback, intake. I throw in a couple of oz of marvel mystery oil. I'm not sure if it really does help lube the fuel system, but the car seems to be running strong on it. I will go away from E85 when the air temps start droping. |

Yeah but there is only so much boost you can run with E85 before you'll run lean with the stock injectors even with a tune. I believe they were running 14-15 psi with pure E85 and was running lean. At this stage I'll take my 20% with 93 oct at 15 psi with a proper running engine.

At the same boost level, (15psi with E85 you will run safer than with 91-93oct.) E85 in Cali goes for $2.50 a gallon 91oct sells for $4.10 Race gas 100oct goes for at least $70-$80 for 5 gallons So if you think about it, you can cruise your 335i on 350-400whp on $2.50 a gallon plus run colder temps on your engine and no ping. |

91oct vs E85
I know that it's not fair comparing my Z vs n54; but my point is here that I'm shocked to hear that 91oct plus meth is better than E85. I did about 10 pulls that night on E85 with Zero knock/ping, plus my plenum was cold.
First vid...91oct, 18degrees of timing, 14-15psi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NB9I8tnrZa0 |

E85 requires about 20% more fuel. In most respects the stock fuel system can handle 430-450WHP on regular gas.
So you will run out of fuel 20% sooner. So to speak. You do the math. On this platform today it just doesnt hold any weight. We have a iffy fuel system to begin with in terms of reliability, add a corrosive fuel like E85 and potentially open up more reliability problems and you have less power to work with cause of the fuel ceiling. |
