E90 oil change DIY or independent garage
I drive an E90 and has ~91,000 km. I plan to do my future services with an independent garage or attempt some on my own. My first task is an oil change.
Do you recommend using BMW Synthetic 5W 30 or the approved BMW oils such as Castrol Syntech European or Mobil 1 SAE OW30? Where can I get these products in Toronto Canada? I've looked at Canadian Tires but they don't carry the European grade oils. As the E90 gets older are we suppose to use other oil grade aside from the recommended BMW 5W 30 oil? Anyone hosting a DIY oil change in Toronto? |

I am on the other side of the pond in Victoria, most Canadian Tires have Castrol 0w-30, it goes on sale three times a year for $7.50 /lt instead of $11.50, I always have one change ready to go in the shop.
I order the filters from www.autopartsway.ca for $10, the OEM and aftermarket filters they sell look identical. Dealership sells BMW 5w-30 oil for $12.21 /lt and the filters for $24. |

I hear the Castrol OW 30 is different then the Castrol European Syntec OW 30. Any truth to that?
BTW filters on the East Side of the pond ranges from ~$12-14 at the BMW dealership. So the $24 seems a bit steep. |

The new dealer here in Victoria (ownership at least) seems to have dropped the filter price to 14$ and the oil is 8$ a liter , no point in guessing if you have the right oil.
