I have a 5/11 build 335is, so I have the combox.

Here is what I did so far, I added $6NR to my VO, FA_WRITE to CAS and NFRM and SG_CODIEREN (CIC)....I read somewhere I supposed to do it to "MEDIA" also, but I don't have that option listed anywhere in NCS.

So, I have the option on my iDrive screen, here are the pictures and problems Im running in to.





As you see when I clip on "Apps" it wants me to connect a USB cable...

Also I tried re-coding the whole car instead of the just CIC, still having the same problem.

Any help would be great.

The obvious question is... do you have an iPhone with BMW Apps loaded? If so... did you connect the iPhone to the USB port in the center console using the Apple white cable while BMW Apps was running in your iPhone?

OK fellas, apparently Im an idiot. I did not know BMW Apps required you to have an iPhone. I figured I could tether using my Blackberry or Android phone. Anything else cool I can add?

So before you didn't have BMW apps? and then you added to VO and now it works? Did you test it?

Yeah, edited my VO, and Connected Drive showed up...Cant test it as apparently I need an iPhone to even use it...

Borrow an iPhone from a friend (if no friend of yours have an iPhone then time to get new friends, dude), load BMW Apps and plug that sucker in your USB port in the glovebox... report back, please.

LOL, ill find out tomorrow, Just placed an order with VZW for an iPhone.

I can use the USB port in the Glovebox correct? Since I don't have one in the center consol.

Don't get the iPhone yet... you must get the USB port hardware first in the center console and then code your car for 6FL as well. The USB in the glovebox cannot be used.

To late, already ordered it, lol. Oh well, Ill put it to use.

Ok can you lead me in the right direction? How can I fully complete this retrofit? Is it as simple as buying the Glovebox USB/Aux Jack (i think there one piece?) and wiring it in? Hopefully PNP...

Im guessing this is the PN#61319129651 for the USB/AUX Jack...what else do I need/to do?

You need the port and the cable from the port to the Combox. Check realoem.com/bmw for P/N.

Only if you have a 03/11 or newer build date. It's a bit more complicated if you have an older build.

Although you won't get full functionality unless you have smartphone integration and a snap-in.

So what functions wouldnt you have if you dont have the smartphone integration? Thats all I dont have, my car was built 06/11, so Im good there. Im still waiting on my cable, but I am ready to try this out.

Dealer wouldn't let me order 6NR when I ordered my friggen car built in March this year and stupid BMW is slow to figure anything out.

I started using Pandora and it only half works with album art that loads some of the times. I can see the need to have apps see also BMW doesn't seem to know what they are doing to put out activation codes and then likely have restrictions if you don't have phone integration. I have a 03/11 build with Nav and 6FL/USB/audio.

Based on this post from Haze and others I've seen, it appears to be a single VO code update to enable 6NR? Do you lose anything by doing this and do you get video over the Apple white cable?

Its unclear what the difference is between the retro-fit software options for a 2011 with the options like mine and enabling this single code. I certainly understand the retro-fit for other vehicles and not here to debate the services offered. I want to be able to perform diagnostics on my car down the road also like I did on my old E46 and makes sense to do this DIY.

There is a new wrinkle to this all depending on your current CIC code version. If you car indeed has a build date of 03/11 and your still on your original CIC code version, then adding 6NR to your VO and recoding will enable *most* of BMW APPS. Afaik, you must have a snap-in for video or re-wire the car like some of the vendors do. If all you want is Pandora and some of the other features (minus video) then you should be fine with the white cable.

Although, if you have one of the newer CIC code versions then you now need a FSC activation code as well.
