Cliffnotes?
edit: nvm, did some brief research Ortiz didn't seem to be too pissed, and Mayweather seem to have fought a lot better than Ortiz. If not KO, Mayweather would have a higher chance in winning either way. Last edited by ChineseGuy; 09-18-2011 at 01:11 AM.. |

NEWS FLASH! Larry Merchant challenged Mayweather. A source close to both camps have stated that floyds camp is suspecting Larry to be taking steroids and wont be taking the fight.

The reality is that he took advantage of the situation at a very vulnerable time to the other opponent. An honorable fighter would not have done that, the apology wasn't even over.
And the comments to Larry were ridiculous and truly showed what a D-Bag he is but Larry's response was legendary!

What your all a bunch of hater! What he did was unsportsman like but not WRONG! Boxing as in any other sport has rules for a reason!!! I don't agree with what he did as he was winning the fight but it wasn't wrong! That old dude needs to learn some respect, old, worthless D bag!!
Floyd will kill Pacman!!! And you can't fault his boxing ability, he did what was needed to win with in the rules of the game!!! |

I'd have to watch the fight in its entirety. It looked like the ref wasn't even looking nor had given the signal to start fighting again. Usually when you assess an infraction, both fighters are to break, the ref gives the warning to the fighter, turns around to the ringside judges, signals that a point is deducted, turns around and then tells both fighter to fight again. I'm not sure if all that happened based on the clip above.
If ref did signal to fight, then Ortiz gave his apology, then got smashed, then it's also Ortiz's fault. Keep your hands up, son. What Mayweather did was classless but not illegal. Actually, the whole thing is fishy. Ortiz has Mayweather trapped and he decides to headbutt him? Then he gets hit while the ref is looking away after attempting to kid some type of man hug? Not only that, but he doesn't protect himself after the first punch and instead keeps looking at the ref and gets nailed with a knockout punch. Sounds like a setup to me. Or maybe I just watched too much WWE as a kid. |

Boxing 101, don't ever drop your guard. That was cheap as hell but Ortiz was practically begging for it between the headbutt and then dropping his guard and looking away.

I was shocked that Ortiz went in with his head because he didn't need to do it. WTF man. It was the second time he got close to Mayweather and it could have been a great fight.
I totally agree you need to defend yourself at ALL times and I do agree that Ortiz deserved to get hit after what he did BUT we're not talking about a fight on the streets. Fans paid to see a proper fight and it was a fly move by Mayweather to secure the win. If you rewind it back you can see that after the headbutt Mayweather goes back to his corner and I'm not sure what they said to him but then he hugs Ortiz and even during the hug he gets into position to smash Ortiz. It really shows how smart and experienced Mayweather is. I think most likely he would have won anyway but now we'll never know for sure.
