I don't get the Efficient Dynamics next gear indication anymore :(
Hi,
A strange thing happened since some time ago, namely I don't get the "next gear" light indicator on my dashboard display. The 2009+ cars display the next gear number for best efficiency in the corner of the center display. My car doesn't display that anymore I can tell for sure that after GIAC reflash I had the indicator show up, so it's not from the flash. It may have happened after they replaced my injectors at the BMW dealership (but they did not update the ECU). Or after I replaced my battery with a lightweight battery, but I am not really sure when it ceased to function. Anybody knows a fix for this ? Maybe it's a setting somewhere ? |

Thanks alot ! My manual is in German and I'm not very good at it. It seems that I accidentally disabled it when I changed the oil and reset the oil mileage.

Yes there is. It works on earlier models too IIRC.

I don't think so, but just change gear to the next one up once the car is at 1800RPM (as low as it sounds - and it is also true while you are in 5-th gear) and you are not climbing a hill or pushing the accelerator too hard (in these cases it will not tell you to upshift). After the gear change, the car will be at 1300RPM, which is the lowest RPM will full available torque as per BMW N54 specifications.

See if there is anyone local in your area that does it, your dealer MIGHT offer it for a fee, but most members will do it for free. Otherwise, if you're ever heading down to or near the Rochester NY area, hit him up. Pete is really fast (did a bunch of coding for me in 5 minutes) and thorough. |

Not always. It depends on engine load. If you are climbing a hill or accelerating at a certain rate it will not tell you that. I think it truly calculates the optimal gear based on a multitude of factors from the DME.

+1. tscdennab is right, if you're tooling around town then it will have you shift up at around 1800 rpms or so. It won't do it if you're going down a hill or under load trying to pass someone on the freeway. Unfortunately, I don't even pay attention to it anymore because it is always telling me to shift up. |
