E93 335i "Golf Tee" Mod
Hi all. I have searched plenty but have reached no conclusion, I found many many helpful threads about the Golf Tee Mod on E90 & E92 by unplugging the solenoid however, the electrical connector in the boot (trunk) is not so easily found on the E93.
I just wanted to ask if this is the vacuum tube the needs a golf tee bunging in? Located on the left hand tail pipe. Thanks |

Yes, there should be an actuated valve attached between the muffler and tip on the left hand side of the car. You should be able to see a black rubber hose/tube running from the actuator up into the underbody of your car. To avoid having to disconnect the tube and then plug both the actuator opening (for peace of mind to prevent any debris from getting in) and the hose/tube, you can simply pinch or kink it with your hand and use a zip tie to keep the pinch/kink in place. I ran this setup with no problems other than a strange rattle that developed in my headliner. When I undid the zip tie and returned the exhaust to it's stock operating condition, the rattle went away. I'm assuming both tips opened caused the exhaust to resonate at a slightly different frequency that something in my interior didn't like, just my luck! . It's a simple mod to do and sounds pretty good, to be honest; I didn't notice much of a difference besides cold start up volume. Good luck!

Yep that is the hose - just pull it off and block the end - I used a nice stainless steal bolt that fit nice and tight, I just threaded it in and zip tied it up out of the way. I also got a little rubber vacuum port block off at the auto store for a couple bucks (actually a bunch of sizes came in a little kit) and put that on where I removed the hose from to make sure no dirt etc got in there in case I want it to work again someday.

or just pull the plug down and you are good to go. It makes a difference in drive and start up. Very good mod

It seems your search skills could use some work...
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153463 Unplugging the actuator takes all of a few minutes. Done it many times. If you don't want to do that, put a ball bearing in the tube instead, and then you can plug the tube back onto the exhaust. To get the bearing out, squirt a bit of WD40 in there, and massage it out with your fingers. |

Thanks for the replies, very helpful . I totally missed that E93 thread but I think I'll be going down the route of plugging up the hose to avoid error codes .
