Replacing transmission fluid.
I know this has been covered before, but I didn't really get any results with actual mileage that people replaced theirs.
I wanted to flush my coolant as I am at 35,xxx and it has never been done. I also wanted to replace any other necessary fluids and was wondering whether I should change tranny fluid. 2 reputable indy shops (Bimmer Clinic in Avenel, NJ & Flemington Foreign Car Repair) both suggested me waiting until closer to 60,000 miles to replace it. What mileage did you guys replace yours? Also what other fluids did you flush and when? I'm a firm believer in preventative maintenance. Thanks in advance for the help. |

I don't want to be a search Nazi but this topic has been covered extensively, including the topic of when to replace the AT fluid, in the Maintenance section.

The 335i's auto transmission manufacturer ZF recommend a drain-and-fill at approx ~50-80k (depending on how you drive and the load).
boogiee90 just replaced his fluid and pan at 135k miles, and the technician found that the oil is still in good shape, with no metal shavings in the magnetic oil pan filter. His car is 325i and handles less torque than the 335i though. You should play it safe and change it at around 60k. |

Drained my pan, refilled with true Shell 1375.4 which is what the ZF 6 speed auto must use or the Lifeguard6 same as the Shell. Others may suggest Esso LT 71411 but since I had the Shell I decided to not take a chance.
I kept the fluid in case I choose to do oil analysis. It was Coke in color and smelled bad just like all fluids for the auto ZF transmission fluids do. I also own two M3's both auto ZF 5 spd autos and change them at 50K with dropping the pan, cleaning the magnets and inside of the pan to be spotless and reinstalling. Drain and refill every 30-40K miles thereafter. I heed Mike Miller's advice on this and have never so far been disappointed. M3 convertible has 279K miles M3/4 has 85K miles E93 has 41K miles All is well... |

I plan on doing man trans, diff fluid and coolant every 100,000KM or so. I did it at around 110,000KM for the first time and the trans and diff fluid that came out looked really good.

Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes.
