rim powdercoating: looks good? who does it?

thinking of getting my stock e92 328i sport package rims (sorry dont know the style number) powdercoated. in between washes they get much darker and i actually think they look better from afar. wondering if anyone knows any good socal shops that would do this at a reasonable price and how you think it would look.

i want to go maybe a little lighter than hyperblack csl's which i dont think is a common color which is why im posting asking for opinions rather than going to a shop and having them get the color wrong

thanks

you should ask longtran. I think he powdercoated his BBS CH black a while ago. I think he said it was 50 per wheel?

We have an automated powder coat booth here but I'm hesitant to try some rims on it.
I heard a while back some guys brought in a go kart chassis and had it done

We only have a few colors here
black, White, Blue, and Yellow

Hey, dude..there is a shop in Chatsworth that does powdercoating. I forgot the address, but it's on De Soto, right after the rail road crossing.

They have tons of colors you can powdercoat to, gloss black and flat black are the most popular. My friends have done gold and blue before...yes blue rims. Gross!

I'm no longer active on NT much anymore. But yes, I've been on NT since 2002, lurking for a year or so before I signed up at that time.

the place you speak of charges an arm and a leg i believe wj4... i called and got some ridiculous price quote. i got my work vs-xx wheels painted for $100/wheel at rbmotoring.com . but, they do powdercoating for $80/wheel too. you guys should check them out. they mainly do skyline tuning and such though. they are located in the City Of Industry.

I've thought of powder coating my 335i sport package rims flat black. The finish is supposed to be much more scratch and chip resistant than paint alone. However, during the process, I belive the rims are taken up to a few hundred degrees (F), possibly putting their future integrity in question.

I'm not trying to dis anyone or claim to be a know-it-all, but this has been discussed on a lot of pretty technical import forums (i.e. NASIOC) in-depth to the point that folks have steered away from it and a BBS spokesman said "don't do it", though being a company, it's always better safe than sorry...

I'd just say that if you plan on tracking your car, think twice. The issue is not that *all* powder coated rims are bad, it's that taking a "finished" set of rims (finished meaning cured through degrees and specific cool-down periods), it may not be good for their strength to redo things. I've heard it affects forged alloys more than cast (which I think ours are).

Flame away - just trying to help.
