Problem uploading new map on Procede

I am having a bit of trouble with my Procede this weekend. I called Vinshu and left a message, but was hoping to take care of this before the weekend was over since this is my daily driver. I believe they are only open Monday through Friday.

I have successfully loaded maps 3 times before on the vehicle with no issues with relative ease. Today I downloaded the new software and the 7-29 maps.

I connected vehicle to laptop and update firmware successfully. I then uploaded the map and made some slight tweaks to the user settings. I then turned on vehicle and it ran fine. I then went into the command center. I reset all of the adaptions. When starting my vehicle up again I get an extremely rough idle. It bounces from 1,000 to 2,000 in a ryhtmic pattern. I get a yellow brake, a engine half full light, and the 4x4 disabled mode.

I have the most recent software update from BMW about a month and a half ago.

I turned vehicle off and pressed the accelerator pedal down twice to clear codes. I then go to start vehicle and it runs fine however all of the warning lights are still present. If I turn off the vehicle again and try to start again, I get the rough idle again.

I tried loading the firmware again. No luck. I put it back in mode 0 (stock mode) and it doesn't help.

Any ideas that I can try? I know there a lot of folks that have this unit and maybe someone here can point me in the right direction.

Make sure you're using the right Rev 2a or 2b or 3 maps. Is this your first Procede install? Read the document "Read Me First!" again to make sure you loaded the right map. The other thing you could do is hook up your laptop to the Procede again to read the DME codes. When you call Vishu/Shiv, he will ask you what DME error codes you have. Hope this helps.

I have the right map, so I am good there. Thanks for the advice on the DME codes. I will be sure to do that.

Did you reset adaptions, ECU, and codes (Command center Mode 3 commands 12 through 1 in that order)? (After loading firmware, then map)

If not I've had this same thing happen to me twice. You can try just 4 through 1 if you don't want all your adaptions reset, but its a good idea to do so with new maps anyway.

You also need to reset the PROCEDE itself aside from resetting the modes in the command center........Did you do that?

This happens automatically right after the firmware loads (Assuming it worked correctly)

Step 2: After firmware update is complete (0-100%) and Procede resets, turn ignition power fully OFF and wait 2 seconds

Step 4: Upload the appropriate 7-11 map
Step 5: Once uploaded, go to Mode 3 on the Command Center and do commands 12 thru 1 (12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 in that order).
Step 6: Go to COMMS menu in user software and select "Reset Procede". This will take a few seconds. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT STEP!
Step 7: Turn ignition power fully OFF and wait 5 seconds
Step 8: Start car and begin driving!

Not trying to be argumentative here, but what Vishnu documentation are these steps covered under? The V5 manual doesn't seem to show all of these steps. Would be nice if it did...


BTW, one more thing for the OP. You'll want to be using the Vishnu user software V5.1 or later with the 7-29 maps. The user parmaters won't show up accurately if you use V5.0.

I just always follow the instructions included with each map release. The "READ ME FIRST!" text file. Never had any problems, except my own error once.

Thanks everyone. I am using the new software off of his site. I am also using the most recent map (2a with upgraded turbos). When the firmware uploads it goes from 0 to 100%. It then resets the procede. I then go to file and find the map and it uploads. I then go into the command center and clear all adaptions. If I were to guess I don't think Command 3, input 4 is clearing. This is the throttle adaption reset. I am going to try again this morning in a few to do it over.

So if a user *is* doing this process, never had an issue with uploading maps the three times I have done this previously and is doing the above correctly... What would be the next step?

Follow those directions above to the letter and you should be OK. This same issue happend to me on both of my N54 cars and ever since I started following these steps I havent had the issue. I beleive that mode 3 command 3 from the command center was the key though for ensuring that this issue didn't occur... Good luck

Just reloaded the old maps with old software and it took perfectly. I think that my computer that I use in the garage (read old) doesn't like the new Procede software. Thanks everyone for your help. You guys are an awesome resource.

I'm still gonna venture that this has something to do with the user software. Use V5.2 with 7-29 maps. Worked perfectly for me

Did you go to Comms and Reset Procede after you did after you did the resets in command center? Also, are you cycling the DME power appropriately? All of this is outlined in the READ ME file.

Ya that's what I told the OP.....But he said apparently, the PROCEDE resets itself after loading new firmware, which I'm sure it does. But I'm sure Vishnu was aware of that as well, and still wrote in the 'read me' file to manually go to 'comm' and select 'reset procede' for a reason.....I've always been a guy who follows instructions religiously, because IMO, there's a REASON why they wrote what they wrote in the instructions. But that's just me......

BTW, I've also never had any problems with any uploading of maps/firmware since day one. Any problems I've EVER had with the Procede was an end user error. '

I'm not sure if this contributed to the OPs problem, but apparently there is a bug in the latest User SW when you try to reset the procede. See post #34 of this thread.
