Any stereo 1/8" to 1/8", or mini-jack to mini-jack cable. In the U.S. I'd send somebody to Radio Shack or Fry's Electronics to get it. For you, well, I don't know

Armen, A3ndy's on the other side of the pond.. you have to speak to him in metric speak Hrm, wait, it's us Americans that can't do metric, not the other way around . Anyways, like Armen said you'll need a 3.5mm male-to-male cable like the one in this pic.

In case anyone hasn't seen how the IPOD hooks up to the AUX input here's a picture I just came across.

I was planning on getting the Belkin Auto Kit for Ipod,
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...onics&n=507846

as well as a very short mini male to mini male audio cable.

This way, only one cable goes into the armrest, supplying both power and connectivity for the Ipod. It also has a small preamp which boosts the level of the Ipod so the volume isn't low, a chronic problem. My only worry is that there isn't enough clearance in the armrest compartment. Anybody try this yet???

Belkin cords

The problem with the Belkin is that with the cord running out of the Glove box, the top cannot close well. I use the Belkin with the iPod sitting inside the glovebox but attach an Air Click to the iPod and use the remote control when changing tracks. Usually, I have it on random and only change if I don't want to listen to any particular track.

Question I have is, is it OK to leave the Belkin in the lighter socket when the engine is off? Does the lighter socket also power off?

Thanks

I am thinking about getting an air click. I like the controls to the Navi Pod EX, but it seems big and it doesn't work thru RF (IRA deflies the whole point of a remote if it is in the glovebox). But it kinda cool because it can do 13 functions:
Basic Functions:
- Play/Pause
- Next Track/Fast Forward
- Previous Track/Rewind
- Volume Up
- Volume Down
Extended Functions:
- Next/Previous Playlist
- Next/Previous Album
- Next/Previous Chapter
- Shuffle Songs/Album/Off
- Repeat One/All/Off
Control iPod Photo Slideshows (requires Firmware v1.1)

But I think i end up getting the airclick and dyeing it black.

Does it not close well because there is ANY cable coming out of it, or just the Belkin Auto Kit cable that is too big??

On my e46, I have a Monster ICarPlay which connects to the lighter power jack, and I leave it in all the time. It provides constant power to the IPod, even when the car is off.

I think it because the cord keeps the top from closing not that the plug head is too big it just the cord keeps it from that. I have the belkin and it doesn't stick out much from the socket.

I use the Belkin device in my E90. I definitely recommend it. In fact, if you're willing to buy an open item from ebay, someone is selling them in the droves for very cheap. I think I bought mine for $7 including the shipping as opposed to $30+ retail. Remember to also buy a short mini stereo to mini stereo cable to connect the belkin adapter to the aux input in the armrest.

The cool thing about the Belkin device is one, as has already been mentioned, it only necessitates one wire to be plugged into the ipod for both power and sound, and two, when you shut your car off the ipod automatically pauses if a song was being played.

It is true that the wire prevents the armest from completely shutting if you keep your ipod outside next to the handbrake like me, but I don't see that as much of a problem.

I just picked up the airclick today, the only thing left now is to find a cord that short to reach the charger to the aux in. From pictures it looks like it just be a mini jack head to a mini jack head. Man I think I have to make the wire myself to do this.

The reason I didn't run the Belkin cable out of the glove box was:
1. The glovebox wouldn't close because of the cord.
2. I have iDrive (standard with the 330i sold in Japan) and hence no clear place to locate the iPod.

I would have loved to have it outside but that would necessitate extra mounting equipment. I like the stealth approach which also maintains the tranquility and beauty of the car as it is.

Besides, I bought the car for my wife as a birthday / anniversary gift and she doesn't like wires running around. If only, I could do the same thing in my Touareg.

I assume that the mini-stereo cable doesn't supply power to our ipod right? so we need to get the power cord such as the Belkin car kit for ipod??

I've been using it and like it except the cables make it a little crowd under the arm rest.. I'll post a picture when I take one tomorrow morning.

I have iDrive, and the cable does not get in the way when I close the glovebox. If you keep your iPod out of the box for controlling, then the glovebox wouldn't close thoroughly..

I have that combo. The wires is a bit of a mess now because I didn't make a mini jack cable yet that is short enough. Otherwise it works really well together. If you want pics get it from the website that makes those products. You don't see it in the car anyways.
