Question Very light steering on my E90

Hi guys, just picked up my new 320i today very exciting. However the car I got has very light steering. Comparing with the cars i test drived, it just feel like drivng a completely different brand car.

I rang the dealer, the saleman told me the new built has a new technology on steering, but I couldn't find any related information on Google. Could some one please shed some lights?

Thanks heaps.

Hey mate.
Congrats on your new purchase and welcome to E90post!
Most of 320i members here have quite a stiff steering wheel compare to my 320d.
Unfortunately i havn't drove a 2011 version yet so can't comment too much.

Also FYi, if you don't mind posting on "Australia" in the future for general enquiries.

Australia Classifieds Section is basically "for sell" section.

ENJOY BMW!

I recently had a friends 2011 build E90 330D for the day. The steering is VERY light compared to my late '07 build 325i. Both cars equipped with m-sport package but i have 19's vs the 18's on the E90.

Personally I didn't like the steering at all on the newer car

I asked my SA at the dealer who says the newer cars utilise electric steering systems rather than a hydraulic system which my older E92 has. He explained the difference was mostly caused

THIS.

All 320is I've driven have had decently weighted steering. My own 320i is Msport and running 19s - Steering is by far the heaviest of all the cars I've ever driven. Then power steering broke and it was even heavier lol.

LOL @ pclockrey

Likewise, steering of my wife's MY10 is lighter (and slighly more artificial) than my MY08. This appears to have resulted in a huge difference in our biceps and shoulder musculature. Be warned.

Weight varies a fair bit with tyre choice, size, pressure and wheel alignment also
