Rev limit?

I was wondering, since even the stock turbos seem to do pretty well until redline, what is stopping an N54 to rev to 8000+ RPM? Valvesprings? Since the bottom end is all forged i'd expect the piston velocity/acceleration to not be a problem?
I understand upgraded turbos might be necessary to even warrant revving that high, but what would be the limiting factor?

The higher you rev, the forces acting on the different parts in your motor grow exponentially. Also, since when do the stock turbos carry power to redline?

Cobb raises rev limit to 7200 for the 6MT but I have yet to see any gains from this

+1 power drops off at about 6400. I don't even think the current upgraded turbos would warrant a redline change, not until we get a single large turbo could I see this change. If this is something you are interested in, I think your best bet would be to change the gearing to something like 4.10 gears.

I think you need the V8 from the M3 It already revs past 8000 RPM

Ever since the Procede V5 maps (seen from various dyno's), the powercurve stays almost flat to redline, even on my stock turbos.. I'll see if i can dig up my sheet.

I understand that revving it from 7000 up to 8000 would increase the kinetic energy of the pistons by ~30%. I'd be surprised if the bottom end couldn't hold that considering that BMW would take into account a certain factor of safety in the design.
