Will never follow BMWs oil interval again

[rant]

Enough said. My oil looked like chocolate milk. I brought it in to Park Ave last month and requested to have it changed, and they refused and only changed the filter. Today I brought it elsewhere....the mechanics shook their heads at me and stated that BMW gets away with It because they perform an engine flush at every oil change to wash away all the sludge. It\'s been 14,000 miles of easy driving, mostly highway, no racing. Next oil change is at 3k miles, like all of the other cars I\'ve owned. 2008 335xi, 45k miles, CPO.

3k is an overkill ... 4-5 with normal driving is good considering it's synthetic oil.

Easiest way to get the dealership to do an unscheduled change is tell them the oil light came on a few times.
They will usually flush the system and put new oil in( if covered that is).
Where are you guys getting this information from?...i have worked at 2 totally different BMW service depts and once as an assistant service manager for BMW and we NEVER perform oil flushes as part of routine maintenance..

I bought the oil/ filter from park ave, (75$) brought it to magic touch auto spa on rt 17 south in Lodi. Also get my car washed there all the time, they do an awesome job. They charged me 29$ for the change, and I opted to have the engine flushed for an additional 69$. Overall not bad and very happy with the service.

Correct me if i am wrong but your post read-" They will usually flush the system and put fresh oil in-if it is covered"

Not trying to break anyones balls here-just didnt want anybody here to recieve wrong information and be disappointed when they go into their local dealership expecting a oil flush when all that BMW performs is a simple drain and refill

I told sheep here before, just because u get one free oil change every year..
it dont mean, thats the only change you need to do.. lol
especially you guys drive these cars to the ground..
Traditionally you dont follow miles, or months, you check your dipstick,
but where is yours? lol

hi, when you say flush your engine, how do you actually mean they would go about this?

would they do a change, then empty out straight after warming up the engine for another change? in essence 2 oil services at once? or is there some other technique involved?

do they charge you for the amout of oil and such that they are throwing away??

seems like the concept is a bit lacking in practicality

I do every 5k so BMW picks up the 3rd, or after every 2 track events.

I was told 15k for my oil change, however, im going to do mine at 7.5k miles then BMW will do the free one at 15k and my interval will consist of every 7.5k and so on.

Similar, but it' a special blend of oil with detergent to wash away all the built up sludge and grime. They run the engine for a few then drain.

I know.. I know... mind is blown.
There u go,,,seems so simple..guys who complain about dirty oil..oil consumption etc etc..all cured very simply by frequent oil changes..not to mention the tangible benefits to engine and turbo longevity,,but u have those hardcore guys.."oh its synthetic its meant to last and blah blah"

There are more n more threads than ever concerning oil problems..so y not just play it safe..$100 every six months to buy some peace of mind is pretty cheap IMO.

Totally blown away.

Especially after number of boosted motors I've built (5). They all had dipsticks btw. I was simply stating what flushing a motor consisted of.
