Sorry! 335d or 335i?
Hi guys
Been a while since I've been here as sold my 335d a while back. Now, several cars later I might be going full circle and getting another 335 - but touring this time so more family friendly. It'll be on company lease so the 335d is nice and quick and whilst not the best on emissions/company tax it should a bit cheaper than the 335i. Having already had a 335d, I'm unsure what to get now. Sorry, as I'm sure its been done to death before but.... 335d had great torque esp with a remap that I had but the lack of noise it made let it down. How much better is the noise from a 335i? I do like a car that makes a nice noise and thats one thing thats top of my list. I'm currently in an E46 M3 so the d will be...... quiet ![]() How torquey is the 335i compared to 335d? Can you get a 335i remapped as easy as the d and how do the gains stack up compared to the d? Whats this golf tee mod I've heard about on the i? Sounds nice on start up. I used to get about 33-34 mpg on the d, am i right in thinking that the i will give about 26mpg?

You will not regret if you went for the petrol the sound alone makes it worth while. Fuel economy wise on my 2007 auto I can get 36mpg on the motorways however in town only use that drops to 19 for me.

I never found myself wanting more torque in the 335i.
Golf tee mode, is a simple disconnection of a pipe on the N/S/R rear silencer box and either plugging with a tee or as I did folding the pipe over. It give the 335i a deeper tone, some owners like it some don't. As already said, DCT is a great gearbox in the 335i |

You simply can't compare the characteristics of driving a diesel to a petrol car. |

Get a 335i. Fit a JB4 tuning box (twenty miniutes to fit and 400bhp) Then watch your speedo do this. Or you could buy a diesel and get 35 mpg!!

I don't think the 335i lacks torque.....even in standard form, my neck does hurt when i floor it....but, yes if you compare it with the 335D then yes, the D got more torque....
stack a JB Plus on the 335i and you'll get lots and lots of torque!.... the 335i engine is known to have some "common" issues.....not sure if its the same for the D..... but once all the issues sorted....I think the engine is great! ....good torque, nice sound, very smooth and consistent power delivery....and its very easy to get more bhp and torque from a simple remap... |

Get a 335i, you have had a 335d before. Performace wise not much in it. Even with re-maps. Sound wise the 335i sounds fantastic.

Dont know about the N55, but the N54 gets an extra 100 bhp from a completely stock engine. A lot more with other mods! I guess the diesel version can be modified to get an extra 100 bhp+ also Both stock cars have very similar performance.. With the Petrol 335 you get more bhp. With the diesel 335 you get more torque. Simply down to personal choice what you prefer The diesel gets a little better economy. The petrol sounds better and gets a manual gearbox option for the purists! Both look fantastic with the M Tech body kit, 19" alloys and twin exit exhausts. Guess it's win win

Not watched the vid. Don't need to. But 400HP in a 3 series will not do 0-60 in 3.9 secs.

So your company is happy to you to wank about in a 25mpg car huh? Nice. I'd have thought that by the time you weigh up the tax benefits of a d against the i, its a no brainer
335d company car tax and BEK (I've assumed you're in the 40% tax bracket because 335d isn't usually a company car for a paperclip salesman) is £7105 taxable. A 335i is £8421, factor in the actual fuel cost difference and I think you have to question if the i is significantly better than a d to make it worthwhile. |

Judging by Matt's previous cars, he may well own said company.
Just like Palmnuts does.

From what I can see a 335i does a standing quarter in mid 13s at about 104MPH. A 330D is a second slower and gives up 6-7MPH. It depends what you define as nothing I guess. The M3 is about 1 second and 8MPH faster than the 335i down a standing quarter. So do we call that nothing too? I'd call it significant improvement. People just don't grasp that the difference between cars does not mean they disappear within seconds, but the truth is the speed difference feels greater and difficult to make up. |
