Make BMW PE louder - Second Cat Delete or Downpipes?

So for winter time I plan to remove the Vanguard and go back to BMW PE and keep at least one set of cat's in place.

I had the BMW PE on before with all cats in place and I would like a little more sound out of my PE especially on the lower end.

Without getting into the whole argument about the performance of the downpipes could somebody advise me as to which route would give me a louder and nicer exhaust note? DOWNPIPES OR A SECONDARY CAT DELETE with the BMW PE

Downpipes will sound way louder than sec cat delete..no question and you will see alot more power..downside of course..emissions.

It's a winter setup so I'll be running minimal boost... so power isn't what I'm really concerned with. Emissions is a slight concern (mainly the effects of a catless exhaust on driver health) which is why I do plan to keep at least one set of cats in with the BMW PE instead of going completely catless with resonators.

secondary cats only increase sound a little not by much. I think DP will make it more louder.

J-Boogey has catless DPs with secondary cats also removed with his BMW PE. Gurgles and pops a lot. Definitely louder.

Doesn't he have only the secondary cat delete and his OEM downpipes still in place? Just saw his avatar and recognized the member now.

As much as people like to deny it... there are serious health risks involved in daily driving a catless vehicle AFAIK... but that's not what this thread is about and let's not get into it.

Yeah I have a feeling DP's would probably make it louder too, but I also think Downpipes make the BMW PE VERY VERY VERY raspy without resonators in place..... and resonators would probably kill the exhaust levels back down to where they were when I had cats in place so it's kinda useless haha.

I had the BMW PE when I first got the car. Excellent sound and tone at higher RPM's Gurgles and pops here are there.

About three months ago I removed them and got straight 3inch pipes added from the factory DP. Gurgles and pops..tons and backfires here and there. I've received nothing but complements, even from random motorists. I will be adding 3inch catless DP’s this week or next. It should sound like a super monster.

SOunds interesting, but it's not my cup of tea.

Post up vids of how it sounds though, would love to hear it.

car emessions raise your chances of heartattack. 6 hours after exposure you are at higher risk of a heart attack. I did my current event for class on it. There was a report on BBC. Im guessing thats what you mean

Referring to a LOT more then just heart attacks.... medically speaking breathing in catless fumes is ridiculous and dangerous to a whole new level.. the question is how much do you breath in?

So I chose to at least have a set of cats on my car.

Do you sit and suck on your pipes?
If not what are you worried about?

IN the car, no where near the exhaust output.

FYI the BBC article was aimed at cyclists who ride through heavy traffic breathing in fumes at a high rate due to exercising.

Personally I think that the performance exhaust along with catless downpipes is probably one of the best exhaust/dp combos out there right now. That along with Eisenmann and Dp's I think they're the best sounding combos ever.

No I would just sleep next to them in my garage with the door closed, something about the noise was soothing and it would always make me pass out... I didn't read the article and this time I'm REALLY not being sarcastic

Full Recirc!

I would think the most critical time is during cold starts and idling at intersections.

I make sure to put my HVAC on full recirculate and hope that minimizes my exposure to the fumes.

Well, I'm not even referring to any articles or studies. Through my research during medical school I learned about various risk factors for various health problems... and then I looked at what is released out of the tailpipes of a catless vehicle... and I was quite UTTERLY surprised that people only care about the "smell not being so bad" vs. what you are actually inhaling.

But anyways, that's upto each individual to decide if they wanna go catless... to me it's not worth the risk.. and as far as I can tell it's a pretty serious risk.

I drive with my windows down alllll the time just to hear my exhaust.... I even turn the heat on and put the windows down sometimes.
