Still not safe enough. Why is it F1 can have anti-climatic crashes with barely any injuries and something as simple as driving in an oval can cause so many deaths.
Look at the recent death list: http://www.lvrj.com/sports/crash-at-...131951048.html

Too many cars in too little space. Most F1 crashes are not 15 car nightmares like this one - there was too little time to react, and nowhere to place the car to avoid the mess.

^ plus these cars run higher speeds on average. You can say that all they do is go around an oval, but they do it almost if not flat out the whole time.

The downforce on those cars must be amazing. NASCAR on that same track barely does 190.
If you look closely you can see that red car that starts it all lock up his front tires just after he taps the guy on his left. His front wheels lose traction and because of that his nose starts to drift left down the slope, and if you look closely you can see how he's got his wheels locked to the right. Basically at that moment he's *drifting* at 220 mph, probably with a very sick feeling in the pit of his stomach. Sad to watch that go down. They say people watch races for the crashes, but that's just youthful exuberance. What those guys do is amazing, and people do appreciate it for exactly what it is -- a great sport.

On top of that, physics are pushing the cars into the wall the entire time they are racing. I hate when I see people say "oh all you do is drive in an oval, how can you wreck so bad?" Uhhhh I don't know if you noticed how fast they are going...shit's not easy by any means.
