Hoping to take delivery tomorrow.
After a month and a half, it's supposed to.....SUPPOSED to arrive at the dealer tomorrow...
car's a e92 xi that's debadged and tinted from vpc.... Uh...my questions are going to be about the worth of breaking in the engine of the car..... I know the process of a hard break in, but will it be required for my car since it came with synth oil from the factory? I plan to just drive it hard regularly and give it an oil change at 1.5k miles. *if i don't do the "true" hard break in which is basically switching the synth for dino oil and breaking it hard for 20 miles then changing oil immediately, how will the performance of the engine compare to a hard broken one?* Car's a lease by the way so I don't see myself owning it down the line, but if the performance deficit is incredibly great, i may consider swapping the factory synth out. |

From what I remember, the engine break in process is keeping the car under 4500 RPM and under either 60 or 80 MPH for the first 1000 miles.
Why are you changing the oil at 1.5K miles? |

From what i've been reading, changing the oil at the bmw recommended 15k is too late and i'm guessing changing it after break in time will get rid of all the impurities from the oil since it's going to have all the metallic contents. I could be wrong ?

just drive the car. don't beat on it for the first 1k. my opinion is it is actually better to let the revs travel through the range rather than cruising at any one constant speed.

Damn, nice car for a young kid, congrats. I have no empirical data to support my claims... With old engines a proper break in procedure is required i.e., cam break in with break in oil, varied driving and loads with light throttle, oil change in first 500 miles, then at 1000, always running conventional oil before switching to synthetic until after break in, adjusting valves ... You get the point...
Apparently with new engines it's not necessary to break them, just don't abuse them. Let your car reach operating temperature before you get on it... With that said I don't use cruise control or drive at high speeds with a new car until i've put about a 1000 miles on it, my opinion. |

Well some people do an oil analysis test, which is the best indicator of wear besides tearing an engine down... Personal choice about redline, it's difficult to provide you with a definitive answer, but based on observation it seems like it is ok, again just don't abuse your vehicle... I do an oil change every 5000 miles with synthetic in all of my cars. 4000 if I do a lot city driving and short trips. Oil change is cheap insurance even if it is relatively costly...
