Is what im doing right or wrong?
I just leased a 2 BR apt for $2k. The only one on the lease right now so it\'s my apartment. I was thinking of finding a roommate to take the other room. Do I have to split rent 50/50 or can I charge whatever I like for the other room? I was thinking of charging maybe 1200 or something.

It's a room for rent situation and you can charge whatever you want but I would highly recommend that you do your best to keep him from finding out you're rooking him. If the place is set up with 1 bathroom then I would go 50/50 but if one of you has a private bathroom then that one would typically pay more (in my personal experience).

Charge him whatever you feel like.
After all, if someone does not want to pay what you're asking for, he / she is not going to pay.

You have to live with this person... If they find out they are paying the lion's share for an apartment that you are for all intents and purposes splitting... it WILL cause problems. Be smart and fair and your life will be easier for it.
I always recommend the use of billmonk.com when it comes to splitting expenses in an apartment between roommates. It keeps things organized. |

Sharing a place with someone is almost always a bad idea. If you can afford it, avoid roommates.
If you really want to share, I'm pretty sure there is a sublet clause in your lease that prohibits that. Go talk to management and see what you need to do to add someone to the lease. It will most likely be a fee and a credit check on the other renter. |

From what my friends told me in the past about sharing a rental unit with someone, whomever gets the master bedroom (aka bigger bedroom) pays a little extra.
