Finally got me...first car park damage!

Well after nearly eleven months of ownership, the day I'd been dreading finally arrived

Despite months of consistent strategic parking, circling car parks several times and more often than not parking in the middle of f***ing nowhere, it just goes to show when your numbers up, its up.

If I had to guess I would say it looks like some clown has hit me with a shopping trolley. Seems a bit low for another cars wing mirror or a door opening onto me? Whatever it was it must have been a fair whack though as it caused a small dent from initial point of contact then kind of glanced off towards the front producing a nice visible scuff.

Now I would have dearly loved to have been around to meet the person who did it as I'm sure they would have felt awful and offered to pay for the damage. They must have been very upset with themselves as it also slipped their mind to leave a note so I could contact them :

When I first saw it I thought it was going to need a trip to a body shop but after a quick wash and closer inspection today I was quite surprised to see that the abrasion was actually a transfer from whatever had hit it and not paint missing from mine!

Fortunately the wife bought me a Das 6 Pro package for Christmas last year which, I must say is a very good piece of kit and perfectly safe to use, even if you are a complete amateur like me.......................

After a quick pass with the lightest cut polish I have the actual scuff mark has been completely removed!

All I'm left with now is a very minor dent which most people would no doubt not even notice but as I'm very anal when it comes to things like this I've got a guy from Dent Devils coming out at the end of the week. If all goes to plan I will have escaped fairly lightly on this occasion.

I only hope whoever did it doesn't beat themselves up over it for too long

Shit happens.

I also park at the far end of any carpark. I also take note of where trolleys can roll and likely trolley routes. But still, as you found out, nothing is 100%

Ha! I'm glad it isn't just me! My wife always says "for crying out loud, can't you just park normally, you weirdo!".

Actually, I normally take her RAV4 if I'm doing the Tesco run..........

I know! That's exactly it! And, do you ever find that you park right at the end of the car park, 500 miles from the shop, and STILL some complete EEJIT parks next to you, when they have the whole car park to choose from? Gah!

I've got the long stay carparks in both manchester and birmingham down to an art, know exactly where the best spaces are. It often means i have a 20min walk to the terminal but i havent returned to any damage yet.

Buy a cheap car seat and park in the mother and baby spaces. That's what I do. Along with a cheery wave to some imaginary person waiting at the entrance to the supermarket and you can't go wrong. I haven't actually got any children, I'm just in 'deep cover' so I can park in those lovely wide bays.

If this is the biggest worry in your life - finding the perfect space at Tesco - then you are a very lucky person.

I also do a mental risk assessment on these. The problem with these in my local supermarket is there is a very gentle slope down to these big spaces...... a gentle slope down from the shopping trolley parking area!

Also while these spaces are wide, you can be 100% sure someone will be banging around with a pram and shopping next door. So much angst

You have missed a vital point

You park miles from anywhere. Right at the end of the car park with several spaces in all directions yet some muppet IN A SHED parks right next to you!

People with kids are generally too lazy to return the trollys.

Those P&C areas are littered with them - the last place I would park tbh.

I guess its a pain if you only have the one car so have to take it into these places

OP, Looks like you're doing a good job of getting rid of the damage!

Unfortunately, unless we just keep our cars in the garage they will get damaged. I recently decided that I was going to make a real effort to not be so anal with my parking because life is too short ..... since then I've had two door dings so I'm going to get them fixed and revert back to spending 30 mins driving around before I park!

At the end of the day, cars are my interest so I'm willing to spend a bit of time trying to keep it in good condition.....

+1........and like I said to the wife the other day, "It is less effort finding a safe parking spot than sorting out a scratch/dent".
I thought I was being all grown up and rational, but she just said "no Mike, you are just a freak, dear."

Ha Ha. I get a bit of grief but generally my wife it pretty good. In fact, when she curbed the wheel on our old Leon, she had it fixed within the week!

Gutted for you but good work with the repair. I also park in the safest spots, furthest away from anyone - the GF doesn't even bother whingeing anymore!

At the flat I have to park right up against the wall until the sensors have nearly commited suicide they sound so upset.....if I leave a gap more than a few inches then some selfish bugger keeps walking to their car behind mine, saving all of a few metres in travel, I found this out when I saw the mud and shit (proper shit after driving back from the folks farm at the weekend and booting it in the lanes/yard) all wiped off at the bacK, I hope they stank good and proper for the rest of the day, as their conscience should have.

How can you get so close to a car that looks pretty expensive and not feel bad about physically touching/damaging it?

I also came back to this damage a few weeks after getting the car;

I SUPPOSE I should be bloomin gratefull for this damage as at least it didn't break the paint. But again, how can you do that to the front wing and just leave?!! Got a guy 'Stephen - SL Dent' to carry out a repair on it and I honestly cannot see where the damage was. If you're in the Glasgow/Edinburgh area then give him a shout as he is an absolute magician. Here's the after shot, I waxed the car the other day and the entire damage has dissapeared even when up close and working on it;

It's because the only way they know how to park is lining themselves up against the next car.

And the usually get out by opening their door until there's a noise, also.

Assholes.

I ALWAYS park at the FAR OPPOSITE end of the carpark, in the middle of a row of empty spaces, or directly in a corner so no one can go on one side at least.

Or park across two spaces. I think you can get away with that in supermarkets but some I've heard some private car parks might give you a fine.

You then run the risk of getting keyed by a disgruntled person who had to search for hours to get a space because you parked over two!
