E92 tweeter Retrofit

Hi to all....

I have a 2007 E92 335D and am looking to retrofit tweeters at the front within the internal side mirror trim. I went and picked up the trim up from my local dealer today but am very confused as to how and which tweeters can be fitted to run off my stock system (iDrive).

I currently have only 4 speaker in the car which I believe is rediculous for a £38000 car as my golf has better sound! 2 speakers in the front doors and 2 in the rear quarters with no tweeters at all. I also do not have any underseat subs like most 3 series out there.... are these an optional extra from factory?

I would just like to add tweeters at the front to run off the exsisting source (without having to add an amp) Iv been told not all tweeters would fit unless I use an aftermarket amp as the impedence would be different to the stock output. Is this true? Could anyone please suggest any options.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks

Aff

If you are putting in tweeters I think it's more complicated than just running a wire.
Right now all the sounds are going to the door speakers. Bass and tweeters...not a good thing.

Plus, if you don't swap out the door speakers and add a quality amplifier, I really don't know if the sound will be a lot better. I swapped from front door speakers and tweeters for focal speakers and a focal amp...and turned off the back speakers. The sound in my car is really awesome to my ears. Well worth it!

Thankyou for your response, I'v read up about a lot of guys just buying Hi-Fi or Logic 7 tweeters and plugging them directly into their mids... Confused to whether this will be possible for my E92. Also unsure as to why I do not have underseat subs where as they seem to come standard.

i believe logic 7 system is included in as a package in premium package and if you dont have it you will get a regular stereo which seems to be the case on your car.

In US all E92 335's came with Logic 7 system as standard, at least 07-09. It might be a different case in Europe.

Ring 0121 543 4627 and speak to either Lee or Chris. Very knowledgeable lads. You can do the Alpine retrofit which will update the amp and add in the tweeters. Tell them that Simon sent you their way

I found this post

www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=352586

It describes that all E9X have three main levels of audio system, plus another only found in the E92 M3,

Speaker provisions - Mids with Tweeters in the front door

Base audio - Mids in the front and back with 2 x 6.5" under seat Subs

HiFi or Premium system - Mids with Tweeters front and back with 2 x 6.5" under seat subs.

However none of the above describe the setup in my E92, I only have 2 mids in the front and 2 mids in the rear... Anyone have any explanation? Is it possible for me to add Subs under the seats and add tweeters to the mids up front (even one or the other) without having to get an amp. Would the wiring exists in the vehicle... Does my vehicle even have an OEM amp... Please help

FYI radio is equalized to work without tweeters

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ighlight=graph

This means you need a processor to flatten the output of the radio.

You have the base system 4's in the doors and back plus 6.5's glued into the under seat positions
believe
If you have the base system you don't really have enough power to make things much better.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...2&d=1266451970

To those offering advice to people outside of there country the options that come standard
are different from country to country.

The thing is I'm very sure that I dont have 6.5's glued under the seat as their is no sound or bass coming from under the seat at all. Its asif there is nothing there, I have also taken a look under the seat and cannot see any speaker. Should I be able to if I have? How can I find out... Cheers

Dude you better look under the seats

Because the bass is so weak even with the Hi Fi that it seems like its not there.
The funny looking little grills that you think might be vents for air or something at the side of the seat rails next to the window, that's them.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=speaker

look in this DIY its in the same location

look at the description of the base system in the other articles.

I mean glued in to the underseat enclosures which, look kind of like the ones in the DIY

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ghlight=Dotech

this is even better look at it

Oh my 'ctuna' you are a legend, I have underseat Subs! I guess its nothing to be excited about as they dont make the slightest difference, especially knowing they should be there but thinking their not!

Now atleast I know I can upgrade the subs under their, anything you can suggest for running a set of tweets without an amo. I have a 2 Channel Alpine amp sitting at home which I believe would be ideal for upgraded under seat subs

There is not an easy upgrade path

There are not many speakers that fit especially in the coupe.

The few that fit in the coupe doors without modification are Focals
and Jehnerts. Also true for the floor but the choices are in the link
at the bottom.
If you were in the US I would automatically tell you to go to these guys
as they can give you a one stop solution.

I just got my system form these musicar in myself
You will need the Technic Harness no matter what you do.
You will need a JL Cleansweep,ms-8 or an amp with processor to
flatten out the Head Unit output so you can decent sound

I took the interior of my door panel off today and noticed a female plug for tweeters to plug into therefore I am now considering purchasing a pair of 4 Ohm OEM Tweeters to connect parallel with the mid-range. I understand the 4 Ohm mid-range speaker in the doors are already connected in parallel with the 4 Ohm woofer under the seat. To prevent dropping the Impedance further (below 2 Ohms) I am considering replacing them with 8" Earthquakes to run off an separate amplifier.

What do you guys think??

. Thats probably the best idea for the price. You may want to read the post titled base stereo measurements. He talks a lot about de-eqing the base stereo. The alpine kit should be an option you think about for that reason. Otherwise the above is probably the only way to stay very cheap but you may have a wierd eq (boosted bass and treble)

Buy the Alpine Retrofit Kit, I had the same problem as you, this is a BMW Retrofit Kit and will cost about £550 in total including parts and fitting...

Call Will from http://www.twgautomotive.co.uk/ for a price and info regarding your car, VIN will be needed...
