335is oil temp? Too hot!!!

Hey guys, I am wondering how much cooler 335is car runs in comparison to 335i with oil cooler. I am thinking with the wider air dam on the 335is the oils cools faster than a standard 3351?
On my 335i FBO I am seeing temps in the 230-245 range on average
My water temps are in check. On average it's 200-226 nothing higher than 226
I'm running GIAC stage 2

living in florida with out the oilcooler ive only seen 260 once but i also take extra precaution when it gets hot it would be easy to get it past 250 though with consecutive runs

That's average. Start worrying when it's in the 270ish range.

The 335is comes with two oil coolers. I the drag strip I ran about 5 consecutive runs back to back and my temps stayed below 250

If you want to take a look at some time slips and the times between them with no resting you can find it here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...4&postcount=30

I comes with a separate radiator for coolant, not oil. Same OC setup as other cars, but the aux radiator and higher wattage cooling fan aid in the cooling.

SO whats this ? I am unable to find this part in current online schematics. All the lines seems to run with the oil cooling lines. I might be wrong, but I would like someone to please identify this part ? The pic shows a Radiator then condenser then another cooling unit with cooling fins with two pipes running through the cooling fins going to the main OC

Wow, very interesting! Looks like BMW added this secondary oil cooler. So instead of having just two oil lines leading to the OC as in the 335i, they replace a portion of the length with an oil cooler. 335is owners should be happy about this.

Power steering oil cooler. All E90's have that part.

Drag racing, isn't going to over heat even a 335I without an oil cooler. Take your 335is to the race track during the summer, and do a few hot laps, and I guarantee you will see 280F+ temps.

You "is" guys chime in. I am thinking about getting the PPK since its on sale but not sure if it will aid in cooling. I have a Pre LCI. I am thinking about removing my fogs light and using the 335is air duct.
The is air duct will fit perfectly up aginst the oil cooler but I need to fabricate a
the frontal piece with some sort of mesh beacuse the is one will not work on Pre LCI MTECH bumper

Aha good catch, never dawned on me thats what it would be, thought that was located lower on the car:

This I would disagree with you on about the drag runs. Before I installed the Dinan OC on my previous 07 E92 335i w/ stock OC, after about 4 consecutive runs my temps nudged past 250.

Btw I have personal driven a 07 E90 335i with JB3 w/o OC for 2 WOT runs and the temps hit 260. Saw this with my own eyes and advised my friend he better get an OC on his car.

Looks like I was wrong, but I like your idea though. I still have my Dinan OC but I will have to have it custom installed like I did the FMIC, and that going to cost mo money

Buraq - If you decide to sell that Dinan OC, PM me and let's talk. I've got a friend who will help me do the install for free (ok, a couple cold brewskis)...

Absolutely nothing can simulate the type of temperature stress the car comes under at the track. You can't tell anything about the performance of an oil cooler based on the stuff you just described. Neither can you tell from driving at high speeds on the autobahn, like some have tried to report on here. You just have to take an oil cooler to the track to see how well it works. Trust me, we have a long ass thread going on all the oil coolers, and cooling tricks we've tried at the track.

As for your 335is stock setup, its pretty much a guarantee to hit 280+F at the track during the summer. The 1M has the same oil + water coolers, and ducts, and the guys have seen 285 after 2-3 hard laps.

The car will run the same oil temp as a standard sport model. There is oil temp thermostat in the oil filter housing.

Ok, I acknowledged this so why are you reiterating the fact ? Turkeybaster115 told me what it was and then I went and looked it up and posted the diagram to "confirm" that he was correct.

In post #7 I clearly stated I was wrong

230-245 is normal operating temp. My 335i has never exceeded 250 even after long 100 MPH pulls back to back (which would induce a lot more heat then a single drag strip run).

Only those experiencing road course track day limp modes from over-heating should consider upgrades.

335is comes with a seperate oil cooler, it is under the wheel and not bumper.

Old thread but in case someone comes across it like I did, yes the 335is has a seperate oil cooler under the wheel well which is why BMW didn't put fog lights on the 335is.

In realoem its listed under the radiator section for some odd reason:
